From Maske's chat over at WP.com today:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A37146-2004Apr23.html
I did hear a few names last night about un-drafted people the Redskins are signing. I don't have the names in front of me right now, but I do recall that there was a linebacker they think will make their season-opening roster. He had a third- or fourth-round grade on their board but fell because of a slow 40 time.
Wonder if he is talking about: LB Billy Strother, New Mexico ? Here's where some of the udfa's you mentioned went:
de uyi osunde - cleveland de matt ball - jacksonville te jason peters - buffalo (as mentioned by cush) |

Being that the kid is a UConn Husky (I am almost as big a UConn fan as I am a Skins fan) makes him A-1 in my book. But even better than that, we would have had the all-name team from hell... Iffy, Ade, and Uyi. And for the record, yes I did have a freaking blast watching college ball at the beginning of this month! |

that's a good signing for them to back up george who is still a good running back but no where near the level he once was. |
Brendon Kennedy (DT, North Texas) signed with Denver

One more signing:
SS/LB Greg Carothers, Washington |
Sorry... my source was wrong.
Carothers signed with thr 49ers. |
Norman Heuer DT 6'5 288
http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/aanews/football/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1083077060232380.xml
During the draft, Redskins representatives told Heuer that if the player they wanted in the sixth round - Notre Dame offensive tackle Jim Molinaro - wasn't available, they'd pick Heuer. Molinaro ended up getting drafted by Washington, but the Redskins (who didn't have a seventh-round choice) remembered Heuer. The 6-5, 288-pound Heuer had been scouted by the Redskins' Shemy Schembechler, son of former Michigan coach Bo Schembechler. "I think this is the best situation for me," Heuer said. "They've been very interested in me since the beginning." couldn't find anything on heuer except that he had 13 tackles last year, 3 for a loss, and one sack.
jarrell weaver: http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/jarrell_weaver |
Gotta love 4.37 speed. Special Teams player for sure, but could he challenge Iffy? Is this a ploy to get Portis his #26? Was Portis whispering "Jarrel Weaver" as well? He might just be trying to bring in safties to get rid of Iffy!!

don't know if any of these guys have been picked up, but they sound like they have some promise as either a passrushing de with some additional bulk or backup lbs:
http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/gabe_nyenhuis http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/kevin_emanuel http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/andrew_shull http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/ronald_jones http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/derrick_strong http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/greg_richmond http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/robert_pollard |
and i know we have betts, morton, and candidate on the roster right now to back up portis but i think this guy would be an awesome change of pace back up for him and sounds like a gibbs type of running back.
http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/zack_abron and for a potential back up center after moore is cut, i think these guys could be groomed by Bugel and company to be a starter if raymer gets hurt or when he retires. Yeah, there it is. But there's a weird comment on the skins website. Check it out:
Quote: The list of undrafted rookie free agents, which includes four defensive linemen and three wide receivers, is as follows: Ryan Boschetti, DL, UCLA Jonathan Brewer, WR, Howard Rufus Brown, CB, Florida State Quinn Christensen, OL, BYU Norman Heuer, DL, Michigan William Strother, LB, New Mexico John Standeford, WR, Purdue Garnell Wilds, CB, Virginia Tech Jafar Williams, WR, Maryland Dennard Wilson, S, Maryland Are there really FOUR DEFENSIVE LINEMEN here? Maybe someone on the Skins site wants more on the d-line, too! |
Looks like Jarrell Weaver may have picked the Jets instead.

Ten Undrafted Rookies Added
By Gary Fitzgerald Redskins.com April 27, 2004 With the Redskins having a limited number of picks heading into the 2004 NFL Draft, head coach Joe Gibbs has stressed the importance of finding quality undrafted rookie free agents once the draft ended Sunday night. Gibbs hopes at least one of the 10 players the team has agreed to terms with on Tuesday develops into a quality starter, if not a Pro Bowl player. The list of undrafted rookie free agents, which includes two defensive linemen, three defensive backs and three wide receivers, is as follows: Ryan Boschetti, DL, UCLA Jonathan Brewer, WR, Howard Rufus Brown, CB, Florida State Quinn Christensen, OL, BYU Norman Heuer, DL, Michigan William Strother, LB, New Mexico John Standeford, WR, Purdue Garnell Wilds, CB, Virginia Tech Jafar Williams, WR, Maryland Dennard Wilson, S, Maryland Wilson is a local product who grew up in Upper Marlboro, Md., and attended DeMatha High School in Hyattsville, Md. Wilson, Williams and Brewer were in attendance at the team's local workout in early April. All of the rookie free agents, as well as the Redskins' four NFL Draft selections from last weekend, will be in attendance at the team's second mini-camp of the offseason from April 30-March 2. Must be true! Now I've seen it twice! |

Richmond Times-Dispatch Apr 28, 2004 ASHBURN - The Washington Redskins agreed to terms with 10 undrafted free agents yesterday, including Virginia Tech defensive lineman Garnell Wilds.
that's the 3rd place i've seen wilds being called a lineman when he's a cornerback. i don't understand how all of these different papers and the skins official site r mixing up wilds' playing position. somehow i can't see a 5-11/196 pound guy being a lineman or maybe it's just me. |
