One persons opinion
So this person thinks that because Mathieu couldn't bench press at the combine means he can't cover bigger NFL wr's. To me that's laughable and that tells me his football IQ is low.
Nickel corners are just like starters in today's NFL. I think when you add in the fact that he's a great teams player you have to take him. We could fill two needs with that pick.
good points. Kick returner is a huge need

I think you misunderstood him.

His quote:

Tyrann Mathieu is undersized as a defensive back at only 5’9 and 186 lbs. His film, and his poor showing at the combine in strength testing showed his inability to match large receivers in their physicality.

Sounds like he is saying his size and strength are question marks.

In 2011, Tennessee Tech’s Da’Rick Rogers (6’2, 217lb) basically carried Mathieu fifteen yards on his back following initial contact, and only went down when Brandon Taylor saved the day with the assist.

At 5'9" and 186 LBS guy sounds like Brandon Banks honestly.

But to be fair D. Green was 5-9 184 lbs and he did pretty good for himself.

Excellent ad hominem attack.. I'm glad the one sentence bench press reference is the only thing you took away from my article

So now HTTR24-7 is on the warpath. Interesting.

Well welcome.

touchy on an opinion web-article arent we?

Re: Thread Series: The case for/against Tyrann Mathieu

His size concerns me as well. The guy is a flea at 5'9 186. He would be a joke at safety. Concerns about his lack of strength are legit too when you're talking about having to jam WRs.

Re: Thread Series: The case for/against Tyrann Mathieu

I'd like to see the Skins get bigger guys in the secondary. If we draft Mathieu, it wouldn't be the end of the world, though I'd prefer to use a 4th or lower on him.

I don't know whom you are speaking to directly but if you say someone has a low NFL/football IQ I would take that as a personal attack.

I agree but how much bigger are the WR's in todays game?

I am curious though if there were many 6'-2"+/220+ lbs receivers in D. Green's day.

or probably just an opinion, much like the article. Sorry if I expect a little more to back up that opinion than a stomp my feet and say hey i can see what you write.

When it comes to football opinions, it shouldnt be taken personal.

Yeah no need for that. I thought the article raised some valid points.
