Yep! I know that all too well too! Married into a LONG ISLAND, ITALIAN family at that! =)
Summo, I have heard the same crap from others as well. And it wastes time explaining to them how wrong they are, but know this. Once Griffin has been in the league for awhile, and once he wins a Super Bowl - and he WILL win a Super Bowl, all that talk will stop. One thing you can remind them about is the field day that the media used to have with Eli Manning before he won his first Super Bowl. The media rode him hard, calling him a bust and what not. Two Super Bowls later, what has the media really said about Eli? Nothing but good things.
I too am an Italian but not the loudmouth kind, I'll explain. My family is Sicilian, if you are not familiar, they are the quiet brooding type that doesn't have allot to say, but when they do look out, think the Godfather. I too married an Italian girl whose family is Neapolitan, those are the loudmouth shoot first aim second type. They talk very loud use there hands when they speak have allot to say about nothing... It makes for some interesting holiday gatherings, and leads to allot of severe headaches. And I too remember the whole Eli thing and all the Giant fans that I know wanted his head and never thought he would amount to anything. Funny, one of my friends even thought the Giants should have traded for McNabb after Eli's third season or so when he failed yet again. |

You know, some of us just have it all. Next time a Giants fan approaches, just make a coughing sound which sounds like "epic fail." Or you can look them in the eye and ask point blank whether they'd rather have Eli or RGIII going into next season. "Eli" is the answer for liars or fools. |

My father-in-law is not extremely talkative, but like you said, when he talks, you better listen, lol! Now, my mother-in-law, she's the talker. She told me she went out with Roger Staubach once - to some kind of dance. However, because I am her favorite son-in-law (her only one, lol) she now has converted to being a Redskins fan!;) I try to look at it like this. REAL football fans, no matter their team affilation, should appreciate a player like RGIII. The sport needs a guy like him, because he's good for the sport of football. Years down the road, those guys will still dislike Griffin because he plays for the Redskins, but they'll have no choice but to respect him, because they'll all be absolutely wrong about him on the other side of this injury. |
Re: Out of state Redskins fan rant….Parental Guidance Suggested
Please keep all of this in mind when RGIII comes back healthy and absolutely TORCHES the Giants next year. You can then print this post, along with the box score, and include a caption: "Scoreboard, Mother F**ers."

Just tell them if we didn't kick their ass and make the playoffs he wouldn't have injured his knee.
Long Island Italian and Polish family here. Summo's Sicilian!? Don't mess with him people. The Sicilians are the bad ones. :D |
Re: Out of state Redskins fan rant….Parental Guidance Suggested
I'll post this in here for Summo's reaction.
[B]Don't blame the player, coach, field or doctors for RGIII's knee injury. A Washington Post "journalist" says he hurt his knee because the team is racist. Re: Out of state Redskins fan rant….Parental Guidance Suggested
I have to completely agree on people who poke fun at the injury. I have seen it on FB and where I work. And unfortunately, I work in a high school with students who think they know everything or that it's appropriate to make fun of an athlete being injured.
Anyone who played sport, at any point, should know that sportsmanship comes first. Regardless of how much you dislike or how fired up the competition gets you there has to be respect. Opponents are people just like us and our Redskins, who go out and risk themselves for a game they love. Teams losing is ground for a laugh, no harm no foul, injury to body is something that shouldn't be joked about. It's why our youngsters take a knee when a player gets hurt or why we all clap when an injured player gets hurt. It's respect. I dislike players like Romo, Vick, Eli...etc. But they are people who risk themselves for a game and for our entertainment. They can lose every Sunday for all I care but I wouldn't risk serious injury on any individual. |

Re: Out of state Redskins fan rant….Parental Guidance Suggested
You know another point that someone touched on before, it’s basically beating your head against the wall trying to explain to non Redskins fan that RG3 is not a classic “Running QB”. The very definition of such has changed in the last two seasons with Cam Newton and RG3. In the past with QB’s like Cunningham, pre-Shanahan Elway, Vick etc…they were the type that would run around buy time wait 3 or so seconds then take off whether anyone was open or not. They had virtually no designed running plays called for them. Starting last season with Cam Newton you now see these QB’s with plays specifically designed tailored to their running ability, whether it’s a punishing style like Newton, or a speed style lie RG3. Most of the ignorant fans that I deal with just see them run and quickly label him as such and don’t want to hear it. So I say **** Em and move on.

I agree. RG3 can be a deadly pocket passer. His running ability is over emphasized by fans including Redskins fans and even coaches, I still do not like the option. Run it with Griffin maybe once a game where instead of giving it to Morris he just keeps it and bootlegs around the corner (would be great on the goal line). |

I'm not a Shanahan basher, I don't want him fired. However, you can't keep telling everyone you saw black, when we all saw white. I don't really care what non-skins fans say.

I normally don't mind either and I don't get into it much with them, that's why I felt the need to vent. |
Re: Out of state Redskins fan rant….Parental Guidance Suggested
Only read a few posts but here was my take of the game,
1st quarter the Skins ran well because the Seahawks had to respect RG3's running. (obviously) but also becaus from what I saw, and when it happened during the season we would lose, the Skins got away from "play action". Go back and watch. Every game they got away from RG3 taking the ball from under center and faking the hand off the Redskins lost. It also seemed that in those games they would rely more on the pitch plays. The first quarter the team did well because they were utilizing the play action. When RG3 got hit for the second time and rolled out of bounds and got up limping they got away from him having to take the ball out from under center and moving less. He simply sat in the pistol and tried to throw which the Seahawks then simply backed off the run and covered the pass more. Just my observation. The team needed to take RG3 out and put Cousins in either end of the 2nd half or atleast at half time. He would have been able to move better and to utilize the play action better. with out it the Seahawks didn't have to worry about Morris. But instead they put him in with only 5 min. left and needing two scores or 3 scores after the bad snap fumble. |

Cheer the hell up, Skins fans...we just had an amazing season, won the division title with a 7-game streak, went 5-1 in the division, swept Dallas and Philly and was one single play away from sweeping the Vagiants too. We knocked NJ and Dallas out of the playoffs and probably got Rob Ryan fired. We have two ROY candidates and the brightest future in the NFL...only to get better next season. It's a great time to be a Redskins fan. Stop crying. RGIII will be back and will dominate the league for years.
I agree everyone needs to stop being so gloom and doom . All these people out there speculation in hindsight about taking RGIII out the game. This dude is a player he is not like the other punk QBs we had in DC. Don’t you think for a second that he won’t be in shape and ready before preseason. This man has the killer instinct plus heart and drive and he wants to the GOAT and he won’t let anything stop him. For those doubters…Watch!!!! |
