No. What I said was: "A change of coaching is NOT going to change [the points/yards] this season. Regardless of coaching, the talent is just not there."

I am implying nothing. I am expressly stating that, with the talent we have available, and the fact that we are six games into this season - [I]for this season[/I] - firing Haslett is not going to improve the D.

While I disagree with you, Devi and Goat about the degree, I don't disagree that there are likely better options at DC than Haslett - [I]after the season is over[/I]. He is an average D Coordinator and nothing special. Not horrific, but nothing to write home about either.

Haslett has crap for a defensive backfield and, with that as a base, has made some good decisions and done some good work but has also made crappy decisions and done crappy work. On the whole he has not overcome the lack of talent through innovative coaching - not sure anyone but a handful of folks could. Certainly, no one is going to step in and magically improve our D this year.

Matt Barkley, starting Jaguars QB in 2013.

Personally, I thought Henne would beat Gabbert out anyway in camp. They had a close battle for the job but again, the big-salaried rookie won out because of how much the team has invested/wasted on him.

It was an e-mail to one of the ESPN Podcasts. The person sending the e-mail was saying that the Chargers are keeping the likes of Norv Turner and AJ Smith around to basically sabotage the team (and that crazy "Take a Chill Pill" article on their site) and alienate the fans so they can get out of SD and move to LA.

I also said that we are likely stuck with Haslett for the rest of the year. I understand that there arent alot of great football minds sitting at home waiting for their phones to ring. Im simply saying that although we have a true cluster **** for a secondary rite now - having Jim Haslett direct that cluster **** is just adding cluster to the ****. You said the other day that you think Haslett is making lemonade with lemons. I agree he has lemons. I dont agree that what he is making tastes anything like lemonade.

The problem with that is, who would their fans be once they moved to LA? Most fans in LA are more than likely Oakland, 49ers, or Charger fans.(minus any other teams) So alienating your current fan base would be self suicide in terms of profits and future income. As it is, I'm sure some fans may stop pulling for the Chargers even if they do decide to move so it would behoove them to do all they could to keep the fans they can. LA certainly isn't going to provide them with fans, history has shown that it is not a good city for NFL teams.

Yet still people are enamored with the idea of a team in LA because it is a big market.

And you have made that point continually throughout every discussion on the Warpath. I disagree and but am not going to go through a play by play and discuss why. Their are ample talking heads citing to both sides of the issue. To me, it is clear that reasonable, knowledgeable people disagree on the issue. Fine. To me as a non-film guy, who isn't in on the coaching discussions, I just don't see him as the consumate evil and don't believe a change will [I]necessarily[/I] improve the defense. It could make it worse - not sure how, but not completely discarding that possibility either.

Actually two threads. I responded to your mentioning of Haslett on this particular thread. Minus the gameday threads im not one to start bashing anything out of the blue including Haslett because it is what it is probably for the remainder of the season. Ive actually defended the FO several times by saying that we couldnt adress every issue on this team in three years because of what this regime inherited. I believe the secondary will be the primary concern this off season. I also believe Haz is in the midst of his last coaching job of his lack luster nfl career.

Okay. I also believe the secondary will be the primary issue. I disagree that this is Haslett's last stop. I agree he probably will not get another DC gig anytime soon, but he may. If Norv can keep getting rehired as a head coach, not sure why a lackluster career precludes Haslett's rehire - and I agree his career has been lack luster. It also, however, has not been horrible. He has had some success in some places.

Again, it seems to me that there have been a couple of games where Haslett has taken the lemons and created lemonade (Minnesota jumps to mind). On top of that, but for the last play, this D was doing well in holding NYG within reach. As I pointed out, the vaunted SF defense gave up 26 points to the Giants with one fewer turnover by the SF offense. M. Williams starts his turn earlier and doesn't stand around watching Cruz sprint towards him and maybe we are having a different discussion.

So we are clear, I think Haslett has made mistakes, several.

Is it your opinion that, particularly with the backfield he has done nothing to enhance the D's chances to succeed?
