Re: Lindsay Czarniak Headed to ESPN
There are 100s of sportscaster who apply to be on ESPN, many of whom are stunningly gorgeous, that don't get hired.. But that's not the defining precedent for making a hire. It's a television medium so clearly looks do play a factor but it's pretty insulting to Lindsay and Sara, etc. to say they are hired simply on looks.
I don't have a problem if they would hire by looks. Hell, I'd perfer if they did. |
Re: Lindsay Czarniak Headed to ESPN
I don't believe their looks are the reason they are hired. Because they can be a 10 but dumb as a box of rocks, see Wrestling ! I happen to love Hanna Storm, I do think she's cute in a MILF kinda way, I'd so give her the business. But if they hired based on looks alone I think ESPN would go to shit pretty fast. You have to be able to get the job done. I'm sure when it comes to hiring men that looks come into play in some way, or maybe not.

Didn't she just marry a guy from NBC4? Craig Melvin?

Nah, the world is full of hot women. If I am gonna invest time watching something, I need more than just hot. I need someone who is capable. |
Re: Lindsay Czarniak Headed to ESPN
ESPN should hire more JMU alumni

I think they just got engaged. She will fit in good at ESPN as her reports were pretty much voice-overs for highlights. I dont ever recall her breaking a story or having any real inside information that lead to a good story. She's hot but when it comes to DC sports she's nt even remotely close to the late great George Michael. |

While I don't know as much as you from the inside of espn obviously, as a viewer I agree that it's an insult to say that espn's female broadcasters are hired w/looks as a primary reason. I think we're well beyond the era of having token women in sports journalism, there seem to be a lot of them out there that clearly know the subject matter & are really good at what they do. I think the firing of Ron Franklin also showed that espn isn't tolerating the old boy ways & is committed to equality. Also, to your point; Hannah Storm, Dana Jacobsen, Linda Cohn & some others are all nice-looking but are clearly not swimsuit model hot. They are all very good at what they do, so much so that I really haven't even thought about female sports journalists being lesser in the way they do the job, until this was brought up today! |

Agreed. She's quite good at her job. She's also luscious but that is the lesser part. I wouldn't watch her if she were only luscious. Maybe she's next in line to head to ESPN. Congrats to Lindsay. She has realized every woman's dream: martini lunches with SmootSmack. |
I'm really surprised ESPN hasn't hired Jenn Sterger yet. It's right up their alley.

But it's just not the same w/out Michael. |
Re: Lindsay Czarniak Headed to ESPN
Was watching NBC-4 sports the evening she announced her leaving. A bright young woman with geat potential and hopefully as bright a future with ESPN.....good luck!
When George Michael passed, shortly thereafter [on the air] she told the amazing story of her first reaction to him after he decided to bring her aboard. Maybe she'll have some likewise stories to tell eventually about her new place of worship. |
