Cooley has 23 catches and 5 TDs right now. He is on pace for 31 receptions and 7 TDs. Not bad for a rookie that Bill Parcells wasn't good enough to play in the NFL.

His production has been increasing all year, especially since the QB change was made.

How about that play that got called back, Ramsey did an incredible job at waiting for that play to develop and evaded the defender at the last second to make the throw, and Cooley had an impressive catch and run flashing some decent speed.

I really wish that play stood up, it was a thing of beauty.

I was so hype after that play. Then of course Raymer had to get a holding penalty again....

Raymer also got beat by William Joseph on the only sack we gave up.
Since Ade Jimoh and Cooley went to the same college I wonder if Jimoh got in some coach's ear and said they should take a look at this kid

If that's the case. Way to go Ade! There's a GM job waiting for you when you retire
I think we all know who is pulling the strings on this team... (THE Ade.)

Seriously, I can't reiterate enough how freakin nice it is to see some positive posts on this site. I was starting to only read this site when I was having too good of a day...to bring me back down.

Does anyone think that we have a remote chance of going to the playoffs if we win the final four games?? Could it happen - statistically?

I was waiting for someone to throw out the "P" word. I think mathematically we're still in it, but we have win out these last 4 games.

We also have the tiebreaker by beating Detroit and Tampa. It's still a LOOOOOONG shot.

I was listening to Giants radio last night (coming home from my girlfriend's house) and they were saying that all it looks like the Redskins need is a reliable tight end to go to and kept talking about how Royal was average. They completely ignored Cooley!!! What is up with that??? I'm not ready to say that Cooley is the next Clint Didier, but he certainly has continued to impress me and I think he's the best tight end we've had in a long time!

I actually thought Cooley's weakness was shown in that play: lack of speed. But, I thought he showed the determination that a lot players lack by gutting it out into the end zone.

I love Cooley, but I've always thought of his speed as a weakness.

MTK 12-06-2004 10:39 AM

I'm not saying he's a speedy guy, he definitely isn't, but he runs hard and got to the endzone on pure determination. I'll take that anyday over a guy who's fast but half-asses the effort part.

joecrisp 12-06-2004 10:40 AM

Cooley's got everything Gibbs wanted in a tight end, and that's why they gave up their 2nd rounder in 2005 to get him. He's big (6'3, 265 lbs), moves well for someone his size, has great hands, has a knack for getting open, he's a very determined, hard-working player, and he's smart. Quickness and speed are definitely not his strengths, but he's fast enough to get open, which is all that really matters.

It does look like Ramsey and Cooley are developing an excellent rapport, and that chemistry could make for a very good QB-TE tandem for years to come.

According to Vinny Cerrato on today's Elliot in the Morning show, the Skins had an excellent practice on Thursday, and Ramsey was a big reason why. He said Ramsey was nailing every pass, and was really showing a lot of fire, and that's why the Skins practiced so well and played so well on Sunday.

Gotta hand it to the receivers, though. They were catching practically everything Ramsey threw at them (Ramsey finished 19 for 22), even when the passes were a little off-target. Seems like everybody was out there making plays, even the tight ends. Cooley, Royal and Koz all made excellent plays.

Ramsey's really learned to just take what's there, and Cooley is a guy that's really going to benefit from that, as long as he keeps getting open like he does. Ramsey still made at least one ill-advised pass that could've been picked off, but for the most part, he was very poised and made the right throws.

That play that got called back, because of the holding penalty on Raymer, truly was a perfect example of what Ramsey can do when he's at the top of his game. When he stays cool, he does a great job of escaping the sack and making a great play downfield. That would-be touchdown to Cooley was reminiscent of the season opener last year against the Jets, when Ramsey escaped the sack and zinged one downfield for an awesome completion that put the Skins in position to win.

Looking forward to seeing more of that in the future...

He has more than enough speed, let's face it how many TE's are homerun hitter's? They don't score because they can outrun the secondary they score because they know how to get open and use there size to shield the defender from the ball, it look's like Cooley has all that with hand's of glue.

illdefined 12-06-2004 12:55 PM

i never seen Gonzales or Shockey line up in the backfield and lead block hard for their runner.

MTK 12-06-2004 02:04 PM

Shockey has lined up in the backfield at times for the Giants this year, but blocking isn't his strength at all.

JWsleep 12-06-2004 02:13 PM

I think the comment about Gibbs wanting an upgrade at TE is not about Cooley. Cooley is an H-back, which lots of people call a fullback-type position. Gibbs uses H-backs better than anyone, and COoley is a great fit. And his chemistry with Ramsey is undeniable. Did you see them joking together on the sidelines after the game was in hand? That was great.

What they need is a better blocking TE to allow the run game, especially at short yardage, to run people over. Royals hasn't exactly been doing that, though he's not a bad receiver. BUt that's not enough in GIbbs O.

Redskins_P 12-06-2004 02:16 PM

I saw Kozlowski lay some decent blocks for Portis yesterday.

saden1 12-06-2004 02:42 PM

Cooley has that classic look. He looks old school with that haircut of his. He needs to add more muscles though as he is a bit scrawny.
