The Eagles traded McNabb..wait for it.....FOR A REASON. What is that reason? Why I don't have the slightest idea. However I do sound smart when I invoke the 'for a reason' rational. |

Of course they traded him for a reason. They have faith in Kolb obviously, they groomed him and they don't want to lose their QB of the future via FA. Much like the Packers with Rodgers/Favre. The difference is that Packers were so bent on keeping Favre out the division that they didn't get much by way of compensation for Favre. The Eagles FO saw what happended with Favre as a cautionary tale, realizing that McNabb will eventually end up where he wants to go they may as well try to get compensation for him. I would like to claim this as my own opinion but i heard it from John Clayton first. |
Re: Greg Cosell on McNabb, Campbell, and Others
Yeah, it still surprises me that they let McNabb go.
- Sure, the eagles haven't gone anywhere for years -- but then again, they were *so close*, and now have young WRs. - Sure, they think they have something with Kolb -- but then again, they already had a ProBowl QB. - Sure, McNabb probably only has 3-4 years left -- but why trade him within-division? I just can't come up with a "reason"... yet. But I agree there's something to it.. |

At least through the part of the season that leads to the POs. After that, he will have earned his usual 5! |
Re: Greg Cosell on McNabb, Campbell, and Others
So after the season is done:
McNabb (13 games): 3377 yards, 14 td, 15 int J.Campbell (13 games): 2387 yards, 13 td, 8 int We traded McNabb for 2nd (2010) and 4th (2011) We traded JC for 4th rounder (2012) Basically we wasted a 2nd rounder for McNabb, and JC played better than him this year. I think most did not want McNabb - but were conflicted/okay with the trade at the time -- but in hindsight this was a complete waste of a 2nd rounder. Hard to stomach that in the beginning of a coach's tenure -- hope it doesn't happen again. We need all our picks going forward. |
Re: Greg Cosell on McNabb, Campbell, and Others
While there's absolutely nothing to base this on, I feel comfortable saying that if JC was still here, the stats and results would have been about the same.
We'd have two more draft picks of course, and that's what makes the trade for McNabb indefensible at this point. Still, I don't know that "most did not want" him. I'd say it was pretty even for and against. Playing the 'what if' game for a moment ... If JC wasn't here, if they didn't make the trade for McNabb, and they stuck it out with Rex or some other journeyman QB all year -- there would have been a lot of people wondering what might have been if we had a quarterback worth anything for the 2010 season. |
Re: Greg Cosell on McNabb, Campbell, and Others
I would say Oakland was an overall better fit for JC than we were for McNabb. Oakland has good line, decent run game and a great D. I can't say we had/have any of those.
