SS, I was just about to text you to ask about the details. My buddy called me at work and said he saw it on ESPN.

So, we're trading our 5th rd pick for Carriker. We're down to 3 total picks for this years draft.

They must have some kind plan in place to get more picks, right?
why do we need more picks? we traded our 2nd and got a franchise QB. we traded a 5th for a former 1st rounder who Haslett feels will be an ideal DE in our new 3-4. The only picks this new coaching staff have traded have yielded Day 1 starters. Its rare that 2nd and 5th rounders amount to that.

Its not like years past when we traded 3rd and 4th round picks for TJ Ducket and Brandon Lloyd. Its not like 2008 when we traded a 2nd and 6th for Jason Taylor. We're not just pissing away our picks. Would I like to acquire more picks - hell yes. But if we dont, i'm satisfied that we traded our picks for players who will fit our system and who project to be starters in 2010, 2011, and 2012, at the least.

The only think i'm upset about is using a 3rd rounder on Jarmon. If we had kept the 4-3, it would have been a great move. however, in retrospect, its a completely wasted pick. Jarmon really doesnt fit anywhere in a 3-4 scheme... I can't beleive we're moving him to OLB.

Wow Redskins get there man. Honestly I feel this is a great deal, Carriker is better than any player they would pick in the 5th round.

This draft is a very deep draft. I feel like many teams are willing to get picks for under-performing players by shipping them out, even if it's a 5th rounder (Holmes, Carriker). But who will be willing to take Haynesworth, Campbell, and possibly McIntosh except for other teams that are horrible with the draft (Oakland)?

Guess I'll say a pray for ol' DC that Jim Schwartz wants Haynesworth back and Oakland/Buffalo miss out on one of the top 4 QBs and will take Campbell for a 4th rder or something.

I see where your coming from, but I feel like this attitude of we are not pissing away our draft picks is what we all said when we acquired those players. Tj Ducket was a beast in the goal line and would be that big back we need. with JT, our defensive line just improved so much!

here is the thing: we need offensive lineman bad. We need 3 or 4 of them. We need to get younger.

I hope he's better than Cody Glenn, just to put a little perspective on what a 5th rounder could be.

Wow...hopefully getting Haynesworth off our roster will yield a pick higher than a 5th rounder.
Carriker will be better for the skins than anyone we'd draft in the 5th round. Great move. I wonder if this qualifies as the "big move" JLC has been alluding to.
Exactly!

Could someone post a brief bio/stats about Carriker?
I don't know much about him.

He was in St. Louis with Haslett as his DC, yes?

Ok, I think I have the details (still no confirmation):

We traded our 5th for Carriker and their 5th
so if it's the 5th rounder, than we have 3 picks left??? wow.
Who cares, he's better than our 5th-round pick probably would be.

I expect us to pick up a bunch of picks on draft-day trades anyways. We have several players who will likely be traded.

Wait, so we took a quality player AND moved up a few picks in Round 5? Why would the Rams do this? :D

edit: Nevermind, read your correction.

I like that we got him but I was hoping they would have taken some players that didn't fit our scheme instead of the draft pick.
