Re: Eli Manning's 6-Year, $97.5 Million Extension One of NFL's Biggest Deals
I wonder if they knew 2 years ago what they know now, would they have traded Shockey away? Witout Pax Shockey might have come in handy.
No, but at the same time that is a lot of money for a Lombardi trophy.
Considering Synder has paid over a billion in salaries since he has taken over, whats 90 million more for a super bowl :) |
Re: Eli Manning's 6-Year, $97.5 Million Extension One of NFL's Biggest Deals
Eli may not be worth every penny of this deal on paper, but who really is nowadays. The real question in my mind is, do the Giants win the Super Bowl without Manning? I seriously doubt it.
Outside of big brother Manning and Tom Brady, I don't think there are five QBs I would rather have in the clutch than Eli Manning.
Are you kidding? I don't think he is in the top 10 in the league. I wouldn't trade JC for Manning 2.0. In almost every statistical respect JC has been a better QB. They won that SB in spite of him. Or rather, he is adequate enough to lead a team with solid offensive pieces and a heck of a defense deep into the playoffs where anything can happen. Off the top of my head: Manning Brady Roethlisberger Rivers Warner McNabb Palmer Brees JC And those are just the ones I'd DEFINITELY take. I'd probably take Ryan, Hasselbeck, Cutler and maybe another few others too. |
Re: Eli Manning's 6-Year, $97.5 Million Extension One of NFL's Biggest Deals
He's definitely not worth anywhere close to that kind of money. His career numbers are paltry. He got hot during one half of one season. That's it. No more Toomer or Plax, and we'll see how he does.
Out of all receivers on the Giants roster, the career TD leader has 4. That's right, 4 career TD receptions. If they think Hakeem Nicks is going to turn Eli into the QB from the second half of 2007, they're in for a rude awakening. Plax was his safety blanket, and he's obviously nowhere close to the same QB without him as he was with him. I'm sorry but I think Eli Manning is one of the most overrated players in football.
Not that I'm an Eli's fan, but they wrote him off when Tiki retired. Then they said he wouldn't make it without Shockey, his receivers are too young, Toomer was too old, Patriots are too good. And they'll say the same thing now that Plax won't be with the Giants this year. All he's done is make the playoffs every year as the starting QB and bring home a Super Bowl ring against a team nobody gave them chance of winning. |

Heck the one play in the SB when he had guys hanging off him and some how got away and then threw that ball to get the first down was what kept winning drive alive. You can also point to about another 12 QB's that could not beat the Pats that year but he found a way to win. Is he worth that contract? Only time will tell. |

How did he do after Plax shot himself/got suspended? They were miserable down the stretch, he didn't throw a TD to a WR in the last 4 or 5 games (despite having maybe the best O-line in the game), and his one-and-done playoff performance was abysmal. I'm just saying, he has done exactly nothing without a 6"5' safety blanket to throw jump balls. |

Again, minus Brady and Manning, I'd take Eli over just about everyone on that list with five minutes left in the game. Certainly Campbell shouldn't be on that list as far as clutch performers are concerned. Not yet anyways. Check this out. (this is through the first week of Sept/'09) GAMES WON AFTER TRAILING GOING INTO Q4 McNabb: 11 out of 43 (25.6%) Manning: 10 out of 33 (30.3%) COMEBACK VICTORIES (trailing by 8 points or more going into Q4) McNabb: 2 out of 22 (9.1%) Manning: 4 out of 17 (23.5%) |

Re: Eli Manning's 6-Year, $97.5 Million Extension One of NFL's Biggest Deals
Campbell and Eli have comparable career numbers- but I wonder how Jason would have done last year with a 6'5" stud receiver, the best O-line in football, and three RBs in the neighborhood of 1,000 yards rushing? Methinks a tad better than 8-8. Just saying.

McNabb has won playoffs games with mediocre receivers/TE whereas Manning has had Plax, Toomer, Shockey, etc. Put Manning on a team with a so-so oline and receivers and he would be an average(maybe even below average) QB. He wouldn't be that so called clutch QB. Manning is an average QB who is on a great team. You could Alex Smith on the Giants and he would look like an Hall of Famer. How does Manning and McNabb stats look with Plax being gone?? |

Looking at the box scores from last year, the 67 yard pass to Moss in the New Orleans game came with 3:29 to play in the 4th. In the St. Louis game the Skins scored on a 9 play, 73 yard drive with 4:31 to play to go up 17-12 before the defense pissed it away on a game ending field goal. And against San Francisco the Skins scored to tie with 1:15 left before the defense again snatched defeat from the jaws of victory (or at least overtime). |

McNabb doesn't. And if you want to throw in the what if argument about the better offensive line, wide receivers and such, I think the same could be said of Peyton Manning too. He's been the benefactor of great talent most of his professional career. Arguably a Hall of Fame center in Saturday (is he still in Indy?) and maybe two Hall of Fame wideouts to boot. The jury's still out on Wayne and Marvin likes to play with guns I hear. My point isn't to take anything away from Donovan McNabb, I think he'll end up in the Hall one day too, perhaps. But right here and now, with five minutes to go in a ball game, I don't think there is a huge difference between him and Eli Manning. I just don't. |
Re: Eli Manning's 6-Year, $97.5 Million Extension One of NFL's Biggest Deals
Reese said this about Manning, I hope Snyder is giving a similar press conference next February
"He's a franchise quarterback," said Reese of Manning. "He's done everything we ask him to do. He's come in, he catches a lot of flak from you guys and he just keeps going. He does what we ask him to do on the field, he does what we ask him to do off the field. He's a good football player."
|

Thank you! JC may not get paid like Manning but if he has a good year this year JC will get paid well, too. |

I'd love to know how much the Manning family has made off football. You take the contracts, endorsements, comercials, and everthing else they do to make money it a boat load.
