We've got to offer smoot a new contract and hopefully make it seamless.

Apprently Pace fired them BEFORE he signed the one-year deal. No commisson for the Postons! Ouch. Watch this story.

that was smart of pace to do.

JImmy Sexton is no pushover folks. He represented Phillip Rivers and you see how long it took that deal to get done. I think he also represented Heath Shuler - who held out for a while.

Good for the Rams. It has to be a relieve to Pace that the end of hold outs is near. That is if he dont get injured this year due to holding out.

maybe if the chargers hadn't insisted on only paying him if he got them to the superbowl 4 years IN A ROW, he could have gotten to camp a little earlier. I place the blame for that crap squarely on the chargers monkey-brained FO...

redwagonskins 09-17-2004 11:40 AM

The 4 superbowl story is horse-s**t. Living in SD we finally got the REST of the story. Rivers was guaranteed Fitzgerald money with normal incentives (ie games played, etc..), in addition, if he made these more ridiculous feats (superbowls, all-pro) he would have made an extra 10mill to put his contract well above Eli. WHile the Chargers probably have the worst PR department (trading Seau, threatening to move to LA), they got screwed by Sexton. The offer they held out on is essentially what they ended up signing with a couple more bucks guaranteed.

That Guy 09-17-2004 11:43 AM

sorry then, i stand corrected. Out here in DC I got a much different story...

redwagonskins 09-17-2004 01:02 PM

That guy,
Don't get me wrong, the Chargers are to blame for the whole mess. Sexton was working them like a redheaded step child. Instead of coming out to the media with their side, they shut up and let Sexton blab all over national tv. It is entirely the Chargers fault for ending up looking like a bunch of dumbasses and prolonging the holdout by allowing public opinion to sway towards Rivers. And then they give LT a ton of cash making the whole holdout (without knowing both sides) look even worse for the Chargers.

I wouldn't say that the holdouts will end anytime soon. Once an athlete gets a taste of not going to training camp, he's not likely to give it up. Tony Siragusa used to skip camp every year, holding out for "lower humidity". When the fines are low enough that you can get by without going poor, skipping windsprints seems like a good idea.

SmootSmack 09-17-2004 04:22 PM

yeah Walter Jones and Orland Pace have sort of made skipping training camp an annual ritual for themselves

SKINSnCANES 09-17-2004 05:19 PM

I was just thinking that acutally. Imagine how much better these players would be if they practiced all offseason and worked out with the team. Its almost like they are takign the easy way out.

That Guy 09-17-2004 06:30 PM

some people play football for the money, not the love of the sport... barry sanders never practiced, destroyed any team he played against, and then gave it up when he got bored/rich enough...
