Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Rams)
Pete Kendall - Knock the goddamn ball to the ground! You are a lineman, you do not want the ball. And if you do pick it up, FALL DOWN!
Leigh Torrance / Fred Smoot - There is no reason to jawsmack with a coach, then turn around and get burned by a rookie late in the game. And Fred Smoot, why were you not on the field with the game on the line? Durant Brooks - If you want to keep your job, you better step it up. There are plenty of out of work punters who could punt better with their eyes closed than you are doing now. Entire Team - This is your wakeup call. Nothing is guaranteed in this game, and it's time to refocus and keep medium. Do not take anything for granted, whether you are 10 point underdogs or 14 point favorites. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Rams)
of all the mistakes, the one that torrance made was the one that was inexcuseable.
how do you let anybody get that wide open?the skins deserved to lose yesterday more than they have deserved to win any of their 4 victories this season.the rams showed them the difference between horse seed and horseshit. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Rams)
I didn't think Avery was that wide open. While it's easy to blame Torrence for the loss, that's not really fair.
My Goats: Durant Brooks - Well, at least you'll always have that Ray Guy trophy. Casey Rabach - You're killing us. You cost us the game against San Diego in 2005, a TD against the Cowboys, and caused a turnover yesterday. I think we may need to get another dirtbag. Jim Zorn - You've called brilliant games in our four wins and made some questionable decisions in our two losses. I'm really happy with you and want you to be a Redskin for a long time, so stop running out the clock when we are playing from behind. Chris Cooley & Pete Kendall - You two probably cost us 7-21 points, between the scoring drives you killed and the 7 points you spotted the Rams. Love you both, but you are both goats of the week. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Rams)
Pass rush - I agree with the person above that mentioned this. We got two sacks yesterday, which was two more than what we got in the previous two weeks, but still. One of those sacks was by a DB (Springs) and the other was the result of good coverage (Bulger didn't have anywhere to go with the ball). We just aren't getting enough pressure, and that showed on that 43 yard completion to Avery.
Fumbles - I'm just gonna say fumbles rather than pick apart three guys. Rabach has been pretty disappointing this year, Kendall just made a dumb decision (I ain't gonna go harsh on him, I think he was harsh enough on himself during the post game), and Cooley's was just the result of him fighting for extra yards. Moss - That's two weeks in a row he's been shut down, and this one was against a horrible Rams secondary. He was looking excellent earlier this season, but he's definitely cooled off now. It's time for him to step it up and have a good game next week. Zorn - hated to include him, but the playcalling wasn't inspiring this game. Zorn probably realized that the Skins weren't taking this too seriously during the week, but rather than try to inspire them early on and make them more motivated, he just called a plain game rather than go for the kill early and often. To me Zorn seems like a guy who attacks rather than plays conservatively, but it seemed he was more conservative than aggressive. Offense - I feel like this needed to be mentioned as a whole. The Rams are a horrible defensive team and we failed to capitalize on that. Penalties and turnovers killed our offensive drives and some series we played too sloppy, and I feel that outweighed the few good drives we had that turned into points. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Rams)
I'm not going to rip on Kendall, he's been a GREAT trade value since he came over from the Jets. He's also an incredibly heady player who always knows the situation, and he knew he had to secure the ball if he was going to try to advance it. The fact that it got knocked out anyway is unfortunate.
Campbell got a bit careless in the pocket at times, but it's all part of the learning process he's undergoing. He threw the ball well, but he'll have better games in the future. Rabach is simply a necessary evil at this point. We should have addressed the position in free agency, and now we are going to be hurt by it. Jansen can't block top ends, and if Heyer and Samuels aren't healthy, this team might be in trouble. At least Cooley is blocking well. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Rams)
I agree. Kendall is one of our most consistent O-linemen and is having a great year. The fumble was just a fluke thing to me.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Rams)
I have never been so angry after a game. I (rightly or wrongly) was (an still am) finding fault with everyone. Even Rogers who for the most part has been playing great - had the special teams penalty I believe on the second to last drive which put us way back. i guess I am not capable of cutting anyone any slack. Hopefully by Wednesday i will calm down. And correct me if I am wrong - but it was Taylor on daning with the stars right? Well, why does Randal El seem to always be auditioning for that show on his punt returns? 2 steps to the right and 2 to the left...repeat. I just want someone to run fast and straight ahead. They may not get many yards, but at least they will hit some one. Excuse me...I need to go take a pill and lie down.

Good point about Randle El (funny DWTS analogy). I feel the same way. It's really awful. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Rams)
A new punter is a must. Who do you suggest as a punt returner though? Put a rookie in there? I don't think so. Maybe give Thrash the job. Next draft we need to finally get a couple D linemen in here. This getting members of the over the hill or not so over the hill gang is getting tiresome. Taylor won't improve our pass rush that much this season. Cleveland is beating the Gmen right now as I type, so we better CUT THE CRAP, get serious, and beat the hell of of the Browns and Lions!!!!!!! The Lions are some sorry ass losers and if we lose to them we suck.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Rams)
Moss - Since we've been struggling these past couple of weeks getting Moss involved in the passing game, maybe we should drop him back to return punts a couple of times per game, ala Steve Smith. We need to get him the ball, and maybe ARE will remember how to go up field if he sees Moss do it.
Offense - Its the same problem we had under Gibbs, we're pretty good at sustaining offense and horrible at finishing drives with tds. Thats why we drafted three pass catchers in the 2nd round, to give us playmakers who could score tds for us. We've got to score more points. The turnovers killed three drives when we were moving the ball, but we've got to figure out how to score points out of the passing game. |

I may be wrong but he tucked that ball in when he caught it, I think the Rams' defender just made a good helmet-to-ball hit. Maybe the ball wasn't that secured. |

Santana Moss The number #1 receiver on the team can't be shut out three weeks in a row. He's got to step it up big time against Cleveland. The best find ways to get open and be part of the offense Randle El Just stop this madness of ARE at punt returner. It's just too painful to watch anymore. Put Fabini back there for all I care Durant Brooks He needs a scare. Bring someone in to challenge him this week.
Agree on above Thomas / Kelly - learn the system, step up in practice and get on the damn field. JC needs big physical targets, particularly in the Red Zone. Jason Fabiani - was absolutely abused, driven 5 yards into the backfield on almost every passing down. Bugel needs to find a better back-up at LT if Samuels goes down. Try Heyer or Rinehart, Fabiani ain't getting it done. Jansen - solid in run game, a big liability in the passing game. Little is past his prime and shouldn't be beating Jansen off the edge. There were at least 5 or six times where Campbell's movement in the pocket or quick release avoided sacks that would've been Jansen's fault. Heyer needs to start against Cleveland, if he can be even average in the run game. Blitz pick-up - we gave up two sacks because of missed assignments. Know what the protection call is and don't leave an open gap. This could be partly Campbell's fault if he didn't identify the potential blitzers and make the correct adjustment. Blache - I have no problem with an attacking man coverage defense, it has been working well.....BUT know the game situation. On 3-13 when the Rams are on their own 41, with 1 timeout, 1:15 left in the game and Smoot out, DO NOT call a Cover 1 blitz. You are putting a weaker corner on an island. If the blitz doesn't get there you're F-ed. Why not a Cover 2, with man underneath or a zone blitz with solid deep coverage and put the pressure on the Rams to come up big. Terrible defensive playcall IMO. Daryl Johnston (Moose) - Am I the only one he irritates the HELL out of? |

A sack ends the competitive phase of the game. It's a good situation to bring the pressure in. However, Blache should have known that Springs should have been on Avery. Not that Torrence failed or anything, but Torrence can easily handle anything Eddie Kennison would run. Bulger threw the ball because he picked the matchup out pre-snap, and it probably would have been tougher on the QB if he saw Springs on him, which is a matchup in our favor. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Rams)
Speaking of Rinehart, what happened to the guy? He hasn't even dressed once this season. If a guy hasn't dressed by the 6th week, he's usually the 53rd man on the roster. I'm not saying he's going to be cut, but I'm a little concerned.
