It's funny. I can't say I was ever concerned but I was sure he would hold out for a week or so because it's like that's what I've come to expect from our top draft picks. But it didn't alarm me. The fact that he got in so early was, to me, an unexpected surprise

At first I thought I was going to be my typically cynical self and say that we got screwed in this deal. I heard reports that we had given as much as $17 million as a signing bonus. I thought to myself....Terrance Newman was chosen one pick higher than Taylor last year, corners get paid a lot more than safeties, and we gave him a signing bonus worth $3 million more?

Then I read that we gave him a $7 million signing bonus with a roster bonus and other incentives that could give him slightly over $13 million (with a total contract value of $18 million), and I thought that was a pretty damn good deal. Plus, it got done before camp started!

Someone has got their sh-t wired tight!

I get the distinct impression that while Gibbs has bought into some of Snyders business practices (i.e. trading picks for young veteran players), Danny has actually stepped back, and Gibbs is really running the show now. He demands respect from [I]everyone[/I], and it's a beautiful thing! :thumb:

COMMON MISCONCEPTION - at least it seems to be prevalent on this site. The idea that Gibbs might pick up the practice of trading picks for players from SNYDER is all backwards. In the 5 years before Gibbs' arrival, Snyder had 32 picks (started with 35 - net loss of 1/2 per year). And he had 5 first rounders in 5 years. Now go back to the Gibbs years. The team had 132 of 144 picks in 12 years (lost 1 per year). But they only had FOUR first rounders in 12 years, and were famous for trading high picks for vets. Just thought it might be of interest to some that were not here for the 80's Skins.

Very true. Good point Hoskin.

yea I was going to say the saem thing but was beat to it. Gibbs always took vets over rookies. Of course, I think Gibbs is smart for having vet backups, but I want Ramsey to start this year. Id rather have ramsey get a few learning bumps then have brunell just show signs of age, because theres not potential there for brunell, hes older and slower, and part of his threat was his feet.
But i digress from this post, ill save my otehr thoughts for another day.
