Is it your position then, that if someone states a political opinion that you disagree with that gives you the right to assault them?

There are no laws against flag burning that are enforceable because the Supreme Court ruled flag burning is constitutionally protected.
Supreme Court Strikes Down All Laws Banning Flag Desecration (1989): Outside the 1984 Republican National Convention in Dallas, Gregory Lee Johnson burned a flag in protest against President Ronald Reagan's policies. He was arrested under Texas' flag desecration statute. In its 5-4 ruling in Texas v. Johnson, the Supreme Court struck down flag desecration laws in 48 states by ruling that flag desecration is a constitutionally protected form of free speech.

Congress has made seven attempts to overrule the U.S. Supreme Court by passing a constitutional amendment making an exception to the First Amendment in order to allow the government to ban flag desecration. In 1990, when the amendment was first brought up, it failed to achieve the necessary two-thirds majority in the House. After the Republican congressional takeover of 1994, it has consistently passed the House but failed in the Senate.
My bad on starting a war here. If you believe great, if you dont, chalk it up to science. I wasn't trying to push my views on anyone. Next time I will send a PM to prevent this.

And I think SBF meant that if you desecrate the flag around him, that he would want to fight. Not a direct personal attack on anyone.

Oh come on.

With all the political discussions we've been having here lately, I thought this one would really take off...

But...it's nothing personal about anyone at this forum or where ever.

As a Marine I swore an Oath to this Nation, it's Republic and the Flag for which it stands.

If you want to burn my Nation...we fight.
If you want to burn my Republic...we fight.
If you want to burn the Flag for which my Nation and my Republic Stand...we fight.

I stand by this...three months or not.

Burn a Redskins Flag at Fed/Ex Field and I bet someone whoops yer ass. Burn an American Flag at Fed/Ex Field if you want to make a brave statement about your opinion.

peace

I could understand this point of view if it was YOUR flag that someone stole from you. But what if it was my flag? On my own property?

That's my bottom line -- the flag burning issue is more about property rights than anything else. If I buy a flag for whatever reason it is my property. And not you nor the government have the right to tell me what I can and cannot do with my flag.

this is baloney. the government is in the business of telling people what they can and cannot do. what makes you think your special?

The Government tell people what they can and can't do with there property all the time. Burn your house down and see. Set your car on fire in the street and see. Heck they'll TAKE your house and pay you street value if they want a road there.

Even I have more leg to stand on then your argument. lol

peace and keep the bic away from the flag

Please note, dmek, that this is my opinion, my personal philosophy. Obviously the government does not adhere to that. But that's what I think, and that's the way I think things should be.

In most jurisdictions, you won't be able to burn your house down due to the threat you pose to other houses around you. Ditto for your car.

That's not the reason for flag burning laws. They don't try to pass those laws because of the risk you pose by setting something on fire. It's a speech issue only. To the politicians, and some misguided citizens, it's simply a way to control morality -- something this country is very fond of doing.
Today is Flag Day here in America so if the weather permits please display yer flag proudly. The weather here in Northern VA is raining right now so I can't take mine out just yet and fly it but when it clears up later I sure will.

I love that old flag and proudly have served it and saluted for which it stands.
OhhRAH!

May GOD continue to bless these United States of America and all Her people at home and abroad.
