I can't believe how far downhill Culpepper's career has gone after Randy Moss was traded. If Culpepper was released, I think Al Davis would go after him and just shut down any plans he had to trade Moss. That would have draft implications too, if they got Culpepper then they might not take Russell and instead take Johnson. They still need to work on that offensive line though lol.
Honestly, if the Raiders sign Culpepper, I don't know what they will do with the first pick.

Assuming Culpepper comes back healthy:

1. Take JaMarcus Russell with the first overall pick, and keep him as Culpepper's backup as long as he's (Culpepper) playing above average football, because Culpepper healthy is simply a better player than JaMarcus Russell is ever going to be.

2. Take Brady Quinn with the first pick and use Culpepper to keep the seat warm while Quinn learns the nuiances of the NFL in practice.

3. Take Calvin Johnson with the 1st overall pick. Essentially eliminate the role of Ronald Curry from the offense, a very underrated player in his prime. Slowly force either Porter or Moss out of the offense despite huge freakin contracts, and the fact that Moss may be a much happier player as long as Culpepper is the QB.

4. Trade down to try to draft Joe Thomas, or just take Thomas at 1 overall.

None of these are really good choices. But they are ALL better (maybe exception to #3) than the most likely option, that the Raiders take Russell to be their QB of the future at No. 1.

Who knows what they are going to do.

He's not going to be ready to go and if he is at any time, it won't take long and he'll be hurt again.

The Raiders have to draft a QB. DC is not the answer.

But then again, the Raiders decision should be easy...just take Brady Quinn at the first pick overall (or trade down). I mean...you earned the first pick, why would you pass up the sure thing at QB for the guy who might succeed under perfect conditions?

Then again, I don't understand a lot of the things Oakland does, but they have built a strong defense and simply are a QB and an OLine away from being a perennial playoff contender. It's too bad they don't seem on their way to solving either of those problems. Russell is not the solution the Raiders are looking for.

Theres zero doubt in sabremetric circles that, barring injury, Quinn will be a much better QB than Russell. You really just have a bunch of old, arm horny scouts altering the perception of millions. I just don't get sucked into that hype anymore.

"Earned the first pick" That just sounds odd

It should have been they gave up first on the year to get that #1 pick. Randy Moss disease, well done.

Pretty bad when Detroit isn't the first to throw the Matt Millen Towel in for that #1 pick.......

I am tired of listening to the dolphins continuously changing QB's and expecing success. Green may be the worst possible fit for Miami, because he is near retirement, getting worse as the days move along, and the dolphins have a #4 pick in the draft. BradyQuinn perhaps?

Green is much better than what they have now in Daunte. Draft a QB with the plan of Green being the guy for 2 years, give the young rookie time to learn the system and they should be in pretty good shape from a QB stand point......for once, since Marino?

There Defense is in great shape. They lack very few parts to being a really good team.
"Earned the first pick" That just sounds odd
Only until you consider how impressively bad that offense was.

Is everyone forgetting that Culpepper was only year removed from league MVP honoers when he got injured and released. Why is everyone so convinced that Green will do better? Remember that Culpepper has had more time to recover. I say that you cannot name a starter without giving them both a chance. That is if Miami gets Green. But, then you have to wonder. If old age catches up to Green and Daunte starts performing well, did Miami waste money on bringing in Green? Of coarse that is if they do.

Green is slowly regressing. Culpepper is right in his prime.

Unless Miami knows something about his health that no other team does, I really don't understand this move.

Maybe they do. But it still remains to be seen. I think this would be a stupid move for Miami, but I aint no GM or NFL coach either.

Just ignore hype, and things like rings, and just look at a guys production over his career. Culpepper can get it done in this league. So can Green. One is only 30 and a better player, assuming he ever plays again.

I am about to contrdict myself for a brief moment. One big difference between Green and Culpepper is that Green has done it without a stellar WR. Culpepper hasn't done it without Moss yet.
