Re: no sound from computer
I'd recommend backing everything up and doing a fresh Windows install.
Alright, tried that now I'm getting a question mark next to Multimedia Audio Controller in the device manager.
What model is the machine? If it didn't redetect it and it previously had before, it sounds like there is definitely something wrong hardware-wise. |

Yeah, Matty, have you checked the device manager for the yellow ?'s after a reboot? |
Re: no sound from computer
If you let us know the model, I'll find the driver and put a link directly on here so you can try reinstalling the driver. Freezes after bootup sound pretty bad, specifically if your sound card is onboard. I'm thinking maybe motherboard issues. :(

Yeah it's not there now |
Re: no sound from computer
I'm throwing in the towel and calling a local computer repair guy today. Usually I can handle minor issues but this is obviously getting out of control.

Re: no sound from computer
Let's try one thing real quick. What model is it?

Dell Dimension 2400 I've already tried multiple driver sets, and I used the recovery disks that came with the computer. |
Re: no sound from computer
OK, one more thing. Look on the back of it and see if where you plug the sound card is like built into the motherboard or if it's in one of those slots more towards the bottom of the tower.

It's at the bottom on the right hand side as I'm looking at the back of the tower. |
Re: no sound from computer
I'm pretty sure its onboard, TMC. Dell likes for everything to be on the board.

OK, install that and see if the yellow question mark goes away. It sounds like you have a PCI Sound Blaster installed. |

True, but I just saw on the website when I was looking for drivers that his particular model had Soundblaster options. |
Re: no sound from computer
I'll give it a try later today, thanks

I've got Soundblaster 5.1 if that means anything |
