I've been jumping around the insurance field since I finished my undergrad in '01, worked for a year doing long-term disability claims, now I'm doing No-fault medical claims, soon to be moving to another company to do workers' comp.

It's funny I have no real interest in insurance, but it's a solid gig that pays the bills and then some. I'm also a part-time MBA student, once I finish that I'm really not sure what I want to do. I'd like to run my own business someday, not sure exactly what though, LOL.

I wish I could make a living out of this website! Maybe someday, who knows!

I am a graduate student in philosophy. I'll have my PhD in about a year. :food-smil

Re: What do you do for a living?

I must be really bored, digging up 10 year old threads, but I figured it would be interesting to see if some of you guys who answered this thread are still working in the same field, same jobs as you were ten years ago. Obviously some of you guys were still in college. Just wondering how you guys are doing in terms of your professional careers now?

Back in May of '04 (when this thread first was posted), I was in the middle of finishing up my bachelor in Information Systems Tech. I was actually unemployed at the time, living at my parent's house. I can see why I never answered this thread back then, lol! What a loser, hahaha!

But now, I can say that things have drastically changed in ten years time. I moved states, and now employed as a System Administrator for one of the local colleges. I've been in the IT field for nearly 10 years. Haven't gotten rich doing it, but it's a fun field. It's not as stressful working for a college as it would be for the private sector, but certainly I'd make more money in the private sector. Sometimes though, the money isn't worth it.

Anyways, looking forward to hearing how things are going with you guys, professionally.

But can you be sure that the PhD in fact exists :cheeky: ;)

Good bump, totally forgot about this thread. Funny, when I first posted I was just about to move on to a company where I totally hated my working life for about 10 years.

Now though, I'm working for Social Security and totally content.

Director of Business Intelligence. Provide analysis to support financial decision making at a health system in Philadelphia. Basically, would we make money or lose money if we hired x doctor, bought y machine, or purchased z hospital. Maintain our IT systems to ensure we can keep providing these analyses and answering these questions.

Cool thread, I am interested to hear how things changed for you guys over ten years.

When this thread was last updated in May '04, I was finishing my freshman year at high school. Nowadays I'm a parts counterman working back counter (in house repairs) at a car dealership.

2004 was a good year for me.
I graduated college with a BSCS.
Joe Gibbs came back and Clinton Portis dazzled me with his very first play as a Redskin.

Currently, I am a Sales Engineer/Wireless Systems Engineer but I am slowly transitioning into product development.

Re: What do you do for a living?

I was working for A chemical company for years. Got to the point I was home being lazy, sick of beating the streets, and my customers were phoning in orders. That is why I almost broke Earthquakes rookie post record in 2012 - alot of time on my hands, lol.
I decided to take on another full time job at a big car dealership. I run the loaner cars out of two of their locations, and work with the insurance companies getting rental bills paid. I make more money working one day a week (keeping in front of my Chemical sales customers) than I do working 45 hours a week at the dealership, but I just look at the whole picture. I couldnt afford to do one or the other. I would love to have one job that pays enough. Working two jobs - even if it is never on the same day and amounts to a normal work week sucks. Got my weekends off though.

Audit risk ops for a financial specifically in home equity. Right now working in a very scrutinized space in which drifts between loss mitigation and loan modification. Work in a small group with a boss on the west coast. Lotta autonomy but alota moving parts.
