Re: Stadium Rumors
Maybe this time they'll think to include digital support in the new stadium so the big screen is really big.
Yeah, using binoculars to see the "Jumbotron" is absurd.:laughing- |
Re: Stadium Rumors
I read in an old sporting news article that rated NFL stadiums that RFK was the best in the league, not only because the balconies rocked when people got excited but also because the seats were so darn close to the field that you could practically touch the players. FedEx is nice because of the large capacity and tremendous noise, but I don't think it will ever compare to RFK.

Re: Stadium Rumors
UM, this has to be false.
first, danny doesn't own the land in DC, second, DC is terrible place to do business even if he pays all costs, and third Dan is still something like 250 million in debt for the current stadium there's no way you could plan buy approve and build a staduim in DC in under 4 years. |
Re: Stadium Rumors
i don,t forsee this happening either. rumor is what it is a rumor.
although if it were to happen i loved rfk but the times have a changed hasn,t it. |
Re: Stadium Rumors
While I doubt this will happen I would love to see it happen. Having the stadium out in Landover is about the same as having the stadium in Hagerstown, whenever there is a Monday night game there is absolutely no buzz or vibe in the city like there is in cities where the stadium is in town. I have been in Pit, Indy, StL on Monday nights when the home team is playing and the city is electric. I work in DC and there is none of that electricity because the stadium is so far away. I hope someday the skins come back home to DC.

Re: Stadium Rumors
I think if anything there will be improvements to Fed Ex - like a retractable roof or something like that if it possible before they would build another stadium. Dan does want a Super Bowl and that stadium is perfect if they could get a roof on it TEMPORARILY!

Re: Stadium Rumors
FedEx hasn't even been open for 10 years...not only that but Snyder invested a crap load of money renovating and adding to the Stadium. Last time I checked, the Skins debt ratio was atrocious. If Snyder is going to do anything with his money, he is going to pay down the money he already owes for buying the team and the stadium.
Hey! I can see Waldo in that pic!
Very funny. As to the rumor, that can only come up when we have nothing else to talk about. After watching the turmoil with the Nationals stadium, does anyone really believe the DC Council will go thru that again, not to mention Mr. Snyder? (I call him "Mr." since he lured Joe Gibbs out of retirement.) RFK is in a pure residential neighborhood; no place for a 100,000 seat stadium, and the parking, and the crowd. This one ranks right down there with "TO is coming to the Redskins." Won't happen in your lifetime. Besides, Fedex is a gold mine. No way will it go idle. |
Re: Stadium Rumors
a friend of mine works for fox sports said no way that fed ex hosts a super bowl because of the amount of camara stands and the poor sight lines.and there is no way to a new stadium

Re: Stadium Rumors
Redskins use Fedex for 8 regular season games, 2 preseason games, draft day party, and the tent sale. I think Snyder let a few bands play there last season. But as a whole it sits there unused for most of the year. Fedex is defniitely a cash cow or they would have more events there. With the 10 home games times 93,000 people is $$$.
Just remember, We all love the redskins, but football is BIG BUSINESS. And theres a reason why the redskins are the most profitable. |
Re: Stadium Rumors
Snyder added to this and this is why we are the top revenue team in the NFL and other than the Yankees in all of sports today.
Re: Stadium Rumors
I have heard some whispers, but no articles or news stories that the Redskins may seek to build a new 100,000 seat football only stadium at RFK after the Nationals leave for their new stadium in 08.
Again, I have neither seen nor read any news stories nor articles related to this subject, I have only heard rumors concerning the subject so I don't know how true it is. Are there any thoughts from anyone concerning such a potential scenario? I for one have very mixed feelings if this ever happens. FedEx is just starting to finally gain slowly but surely that homefield advantage that has been badly missed since the days of RFK. FedEx while not the fanciest and best located of football stadiums is modern, newer and in terms of capacity, luxury seats and club level attractions will allow the SKINs to financially top all teams in revenue for a long time to come. Why leave? But if we know the Dan, he has high asperations. He seems like the type of guy that would want his own legacy and his own playpin, especially with the other area franchises either downtown (Wiz, CAPS) or heading downtown (NATS). He's going to want a piece of the action. Once RFK is left, it will be interesting to see what happens.
Come on chief. Whoever spread that rumor obviously doesn't live around here. Haven't you seen how inept the D.C. city council is??? I will grow a second head before that happens. They can't even build a baseball stadium. D.C. can't respond to a 911 call in less than 15 minutes, how the hell are they going to rebuild RFK? Case and point, regarding the baseball stadium, the D.C. city council is claiming that they saved the city all of this money. What they fail to tell people is that if they had committed when the issue was first brought up, they would have saved millions of dollars in construction fees. Absolutely no way. |
Re: Stadium Rumors
If Snyder is considering this, he should take a look at the nonsense that the DC City Council is engaged in with baseball and ask himself if that's how he wants to spend the next twenty years. Mr Cooke tried to build on the RFK site and he got consistent opposition fom the city, even though he was footing the bill. It's a quagmire. Besides, I thought FedEx really came into its own this year.
"By God stay clear of those damned DC politicians!" |
Re: Stadium Rumors
Fed Ex is where the Redskins will be for some time. I think it's easier access, safer, ridiculous amount of land and parking compared to the RFK site. I would love to see them do what Chicago did with Soldier Field. Resurrect and modernize and enlarge it while keeping some architectural original pieces. It would be awesome. But just because I witnessed the magic that was RFK. Gibbs is back in town and that's good enough for me don't care if we ever get a Superbowl or move back to DC. GO REDSKINS!!!
