My dream? Anyhow, not sure I'd read too much into this quite yet. Smart of Harbaugh to speak in a positive light of Smith, because he wants a veteran QB and with no CBA he really can't get another for now. So whether he wants to be or not, he may be "stuck" with Smith for a little while
Lol ok maybe not dream but prediction. Although I still think sf makes a play for palmer OR mcnabb

Looks like SSs dream of smith in wsh won't happen, thank god
Shouldn't he be trading for a washed up Pro Bowl QB from a division rival? (I kid, I kid).

Actually it's more my dream? I mean if Aaron Rodgers was able to do what he did as the 24th pick in 05 then Smith should be able to do even better!

Can't blame Gray. It's one thing to simply jump ship but Gray was offered twice as much money and a promotion from position coach in college to defensive coordinator int he NFL.

He should have been promoted by the Redskins and Shanahan instead of hiring Haslett as DC.

Yes, I wonder about Haslett. Can anyone that knows about these things tell me -- was our defense SO BAD simply because of the wrong players for the 3-4 defense, or was Haslett also bad at calling our defense?

I understand we'd drop in rankings given the switch to 3-4 and the lack of a good NT, but really - the second worst defense in the league??

I personally blame it on the 3-4 defense. We just didn't have the personnel for it. Just don't understand why they couldn't wait a season to implement it. They could've ran a base 4-3 with occasional 3-4 looks. Sure they threw a couple of 4-3 formations, but they spent the whole offseason learning the 3-4.

SBXVII 02-15-2011 06:51 AM

Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves

I was not fascinated with the Haslett pick but I can't blame him for the defenses issues. I think almost everyone could see a good part of the problem was personel not fitting the 3-4. As far as using both the 4-3 and 3-4 scheme, you have to keep in mind it was Shanahan who was enamored with the 3-4 and studied it during his year off looking at both the Steelers and Patriots. I think part of the reason Haslett was picked was because he helped to implement the Steelers 3-4 defense while he was there so he should have a basic understanding of how it works.

When Haslett left the Steelers and had his two HCing stints I think he used the 4-3 scheme and honestly I don't think it worked out for him. Maybe it was whoever he had as the DC but they declined each year stats wise. I'm still holding out hope Haslett can get this team playing like the Steelers.

Does anyone know why he left? I mean, now he's gone from the NFL and likely took a pay cut.

Is Shanny alienating his coaches? Or did Olivadotti just want a less time consuming job?

Job security given the likelihood of a lockout I guess.

Good point. LSU is a great job too.

Maybe he wasn't comfortable with the 3-4. :D

No Buster that has to be it. He couldn't have wanted to try something new, it most certainly has to be Shanny's fault. Or is it Danny's fault ? Or is it Haynesworths fault ? Oh I'll just wait til I get to the Largo Metro Station and hear Lavar and Chad saying that this is another sign of how horrible this franchise is.

The Cow pokes made a good hire with Rob Ryan IMO. He had a good presser yesterday, Jason Garrett is all about wearing ties and being on time, Rob Ryan comes in Drops an F bomb in the first 30seconds of his presser!!! So maybe there will be some strife, i sure hope so. Any of the Ryans > Jim Hasslett

Sure hope there isn't any strife, but who knows these days. I certainly do admire Ryans "no nonsense" approach. But Garret really needed someone in there on defense he could essentially "hand the reigns too". Garret will have his hands full as HC and running the offense. He even brought in a proven WR coach from Green Bay who will be more like as "Asst Offensive Coordinator" to help with some of the load.
