Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
- Grossman - his salary is $920K and his contract seems to meet the criteria for vet min exemption (1 year deal, small signing bonus, etc.). So makes sense I think.
- Ya I noticed the Carriker item on PC's sheets, then it was discussed further in the Yahoo capologists group. A few capologists agree this is the proper accounting method. Though I agree it seems strange considering how they've constructed other recent deals. - NFLPA only gives salary info. Signing bonus and roster bonus info is always harder to come by. Generally I start with the salary data, then try to fill in the blanks from there.
It's all good stuff. I waited like a week to do an update, because I couldn't get confirmation on any of the relevant numbers. How often does the NFLPA typically update it's salary records? |
Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
CC, what do you know about Cedric Griffin's deal, in terms of the percentage of base salary vs. the percentage of incentives.

Usually takes a few days to make it from the press to NFLPA's site. However the bigger problem is getting access to NFLPA at all. They shut down the site hard a while back so it's difficult to get access these days. My account was shut out too, but as SS always says, "I have my sources". |

Well it's a 1-year $2.5M deal. All sources seem to agree with this. But his actual salary is only $1.25M. So my guess is they gave him half in salary and half as a roster bonus/LTBE incentives etc. It all gets treated the same for cap purposes anyways. |
Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
I just figured if there was a player on the roster who had a NLTBE incentive in his contract, it'd be him.

IMO Mara comes across as a arrogant A#S. Once again IMO the fact that the NFL office is in NY gives him to much influence on the Commissioner. |

That dude obviously needs a Twitter account.........

Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
I think I may have figured out the logical reason for how we structured the Carriker contract:
Redskins and Cowboys file grievance against NFL; Giants’ owner unintentionally helps them out | Shutdown Corner - Yahoo! Sports If you read the parts that quote Halsell, what we did with Haynesworth and Hall in 2010 -- and what we were punished for -- is simply a greater scale version of what we just did with Carriker following the salary cap penalties. The argument that the league approved the deals in 2010, then approved the Carriker deal in 2012, strengthens the Redskins position that the tactic wasn't shady then, and isn't now. The practical application isn't the same at all. But if we're going to fight to get the space back, using that technique again in a capped year makes a lot of sense to build a case. |
Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
But here's the craziest part: had either Haynesworth or Hall actually voided their deals in 2011, we would have received a salary credit for the amount of the bonus, meaning we could have effectively been working with a cap of about $135 million.
Of course, neither was going to cut us an eight figure check that was greater than the amount they would have gotten on the open market, but still. That would have been ridiculous. |
Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
are we at roughly $4.5M?

7.5 |
Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
It's about $7.5 million.
Of course, I have no idea how many of the moves we have accounted for above haven't cleared the league office yet. Could be zero. Could be more than zero. |
Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
