Speaking of easing in a player. Would you all welcome back Tanard and immediately put him in as the starting FS knowing he's rusty but Rambo is also a rookie, or do you go with the growing pains of getting a young rookie safety acclimated to the NFL as a starter since the other starter hasn't played in a regular season game in 2 years?
Absolutely would not start him immediately.

There's a huge difference between your starting franchise QB and a free agent safety who has been suspended for drugs three time and has not stepped on a field in 2+ years. We don't even know if he's stayed in football shape. He could be a nice addition but he could also fail his physical.
Is that assuming rg3 was 100% at the beginning of preseason?
It's assuming that RG3 was healthy enough to play, which I think he was; and that he wouldn't have got hurt.
Can't say that for sure.

You could just as easily say "if RG3 played in the preseason, he would have been lost for the season."

It's all speculation, and boils down to the fact that it wasn't worth the risk.

It's one game, time to move on.
Why did RG3 look so much better near the end of the game than at the start? Half-time adjustments?

Yes. they decided to actually get the ball on offense!

Our D was on the field for the entire first half practically. RGIII had no chance to get in a rhythm.

Yes, he threw some bad balls including 2 picks, but the fumbles by Morris and Philly's ball possession game did not give him a chance to get settled in and comfortable.

Remember, he had not taken a live game snap, even at preseason speed since January. To expect him to light it up from the first snap isn't reasonable.

I would have never predicted Morris' struggles. I thought we'd come out and run him down their throats and control the time of possession, which would have helped Griffin tremendously if we succeeded at that.

I don't know, I don't post here often but I've been around a while. I don't get satisfied with moral victories. Instead of being happy about them looking better in the second half, I ask why did they play so poorly in the first? Clearly the Eagles took their foot off the gas in the second half but this game was essentially over at halftime, no matter how much window dressing gets put on it.

It wasn't just RG-3 either, the team was not ready to play at all. Shanahan got outcoached badly by a rookie? The man has one playoff win in fourteen years and people still think he's a genius. I'm not seeing it. Still a long way to go but definitley a poor start, getting thumped by a division rival in your own building, a rival that won four games last year.

Hoping for better in Green Bay, that won't be easy either.

I think getting more snaps during the Offseason and training camp, during practice, is far more beneficial than a drive or two in a preseason game. That's a more thorough and productive activity for any player.

Clearly rg3 wasn't ready for that, otherwise he'd been out there.

That's why I think Skips statement is pretty shortsighted.

Which is why we had no business bringing Fletcher back at the type of salary he's at. It was stupid.
I don't think it would have been worth it either. Obviously, keeping RG3 healthy is far more important than winning an opening game. But what Skip Bayless said is true: if RG3 played in the preseason, we would have won that game.
I'm not sure we win the game, that's pure speculation, I think he might have played better.

Here's the thing w/ RG3. It's obvious he's not a fan of running read option plays anymore. His dad says..."show me a running QB and I'll show you a loser"...ok we get it. You want to be Aaron Rodgers. But from what I've seen so far, he's not that type of QB...he's at his best when he has a running game, and can run play action off the read option...and there's a threat for him to run. That opened holes up in the defenses last year. When teams know we have to pass, and he has to come off and go to his other options, and sit in the pocket...that's where he struggles, or isn't at his best. If he wants to be a pocket guy then we'll see how it shakes out. I'm not sure he's that guy though...

Been here since 2004 only post when he has something important/intelligent to say not to just drive up post count or hear himself talk.

Still a mighty big assumption. He could have gotten hurt again too. It's not a clear correlation between playing in the preseason and what would have happened last night.

He might have played better, but Morris would still fumble, the tackling would still suck, etc.

It's not like we had a whole lot of options at MLB... Perry Riley and... ? Old ass Nick Barnett? Kehl makes plays here and there but is he starting caliber?

We'll probably look to draft a MLB or bring in some young FA's the next offseason.

"Rg3 isn't that great anymore"
"Morris was a one year wonder"
"Shanny will be fired "
