Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
Anyone noticed a Steeler scrub WR wearing #8 out there? I was like WTF? Is that a kicker playing as a wideout?

And to make matters worse he was white, oh I'm sorry, Caucasion-American. |
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
Good game Skins.. I was impressed by Grossman and his poise tonight. As it is right now. I have this as my WR's making the cut
Moss Gaffney Armstrong Austin Banks Hankerson Aldrick Even though Royster got the bulk of carries. Heru looked fast and sharp as well. Catching out of the backfield too. Hightower looked awesome too.. He could be the next big thing at RB for wash and the NFC |

Don't remember him making any catches. I thought Stallworth looked good out there, though he was playing against 2nd stringers. |

Don't think that's going to get him through the roster bubble though.

Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
So I thought Royster was behind Helu on the depth chart, yet he played more and ahead of him and looked just as good as Helu.
Aldrick Robinson did awful. Defense looked great, but Josh Wilson didn't impress me; Bowen and Cofield did though. Rocky looked ok, Riley looked ok, but Keyaron Fox may have been the most impressive of the 3. Will Montgomery, even though he was going against Hampton, was getting pushed around like a rag doll every play, in the backfield |

Hankerson will make the team simply because he was a 3rd round pick, but seriously, when the hell did he suddenly forget how to catch? If he was the exact same player thus far but was drafted in, say, the 6th round, he'd be cut material. Disappointing. |

As someone else pointed out to me. Theres room on this team for Helu, Royster, and Hightower. Torain ironically could be an afterthought by the end of the year. Sorry to say though that James Davis is likely gone.
Good game Skins.. I was impressed by Grossman and his poise tonight. As it is right now. They want to keep Hank but apparently he's making it hard for them. Gaffney looks like a keeper. After that it might be a toss up between Paul and Stallworth and I think they would rather try and develop Paul (heard somewhere he would be a hot commodity on the waiver wire). Still it would be a tragedy if Terrance Austin didn't make this team. |
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
Yeah Hankerson tonight showed me exactly what I've been hearing. He can't catch.
crazy to think that when most Miami games I saw him in he caught pretty much everything. |
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
Hate to scare people, and hopefully this is an isolated incident but I fast forwarded the game and found Monty getting just blown off the ball, Rabach style.

Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
Dennis Dixon was 1/10? Really? That's...a really good job by our third team defense.

Cutting Rabach and moving Monty inside helps our OL overall. Drafting a RG high and moving Chester inside would help our OL even more next year. |
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
Obviously we can't put but so much stock into a preseason game, but none the less that was encouraging given how badly last year and pretty much most of the last decade has gone. Still hoping for around an 8-8 season, but it's nice to see positive changes occuring through a nice combination of youth and seasoned vets.

Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
Yeah, Casey Hampton is tough for anyone to handle but Montgomery was getting blown up

Monty redirects a heavy bull rush away from Sexy Rexy. With Rabach the defender would have used him (Rabach) to physically sack the QB. With Monty Rex gets a clean pocket assuming Hightower picks up his assignment (which he does). Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
Also on the few plays I noticed Cofield I liked what I saw. My fears of him just playing patty cake with Offensive Lineman were rendered moot. Guy knows how to fire off the ball, lock up, and in some cases toss the blocker aside to get to the ball carrier.'
Kerrigan is going to be dangerous where he starts to know what the hell he's doing lol. Personally I just loved his hustle. Most rookies will slow down and try to adjust to the game that way. Not Kerrigan. Bull in a freaking china shop. Guys going to be good. And even though he kind of looked lost during a few plays he still got tackles and QB hurries. Lot to like about Kerrigan. By the way, I'm now convinced I was quick to judge Monty. Guy is a quality Center. Granted he got some negative attention when Hampton when beast mode on two plays in the red zone but one of those was a screen that was designed to let him through. The one before Monty got beat. Everything else I'm see is solid. Personally love his ability to get to the second level and wall off linebackers. |
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
Hankerson needs to get rid of those tennis rackets he calls gloves. He looks like Uncle Skins with them on.
|
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
first string secondary looked, um, not great. DL/OL looked good overall though, so did our qbs.
graham is gone, and if I had to pick WRs just off that game, aldrick, hankerson, and dnp kelly would be gone. kerrigan will be good by week 6, hankerson might figure it out next year... i don't know, i was REALLY not impressed. |
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
I dont think Shanny is gonna keep Hankerson simply because he's a 3rd rounder. If he thinks one of the other guys deserves a shot over him he's gonna give it to them.
I'll go out on a limb and say he is already behind Hightower straight up. I think at this point if he can't be healthy he's probably not even making the team.
ATV will make the team and will back up Tim Hightower. How quickly we forget how ATV ran last season. Now we have a good 1-2 punch with Hightower/ATV. |

Depends how hard Hankerson works on and off of the field, see Malcolm Kelly. Jot many coaches will cut a 3rd rounder if for nothing else but to keep from admitting that they evaluated/coached them horribly. He will be okay, just gotta work on the hands. He's only been under the tutelage of our coaching staff for a few weeks. |

Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
As much as I would love to get hyped about how we play in preseason, I can't allow myself too. The preseason and the regular season are two completely different seasons. Even the speed of the game is different. With all that said, it's nice to see us not stink up the joint in our first preseason game, but again, this game means nothing. All it is is a informative teaching session for the coaches.
Preseason means coaches can evaluate the players and see who can translate everything they learned on the field during a game. Preseason is very vanilla but because of the LOCK OUT preseason this year is very important to see who will make the tail end of the rosters. I will watch the game Saturday on DTV. I saw some of the highlights on NFL Network and I like how the O-Line gave the QB's time in the pocket. |
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
I still the the WR postion is still very unsettled for the last few spots.
As of now the WR who will make the 53 man roster as follow 1.Moss 2.AA 3.Gaffney 4.Hankerson 5.? 6? Hankerson will be given every chance to make the opening day roster, with 3 remaining preseason games to impress the coaches. |

Royster seems to know the plays and he follows his blockers well. That's about it. He lacks speed, quickness, and explosion. Right now, he's just a lesser version of ATV. Helu has the speed and quickness that this team could use from one of its backs. I'm hoping that he develops and is able to provide us with a big play threat, both running and receiving, out of the backfield. |
You guys are kidding right? Yeah Rex looked sharp, I'll give him that. That was the #1 thing I said I wanted to see tonight in the Preseason week 1 expectations thread.
But come on. Their starters barely played. Our starting offense played the entire first half against Pitt's #2's with the exception of a series or two, and it was 7-7 tie at halftime. Not exactly bragging material.
I was saying it mostly in jest. Still, had we looked like dog shit the haters would be out in full force. There were a lot of positives to take from that game. |

For real. I can understand if he was a 1st or 2nd rounder, but the guy is a 3rd rounder. |
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
We're gonna have to be patient with Hankerson. He needs work, there was a reason he lasted til the 3rd round.

Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread
I have no issue with Shanahan playing his projected starters an entire half. But the problem is that he can't make the opponent do the same, and the evaluation becomes meaningless against non-competition. I wish all teams would go a half with their starters in the preseason, but some teams are more top-heavy than others.
For the first time, I don't think the Redskins qualify as top-heavy. The second team defense may have flat outplayed the first team, particularly in the defensive secondary. Hard for me to make that claim because the Steelers played their third team in the second half and their second team offense is actually quite good, but if for some week DHall, Wilson, Horton, and Doughty were all unavailable, I don't think we'd have much of a drop-off with the next four guys up.
I'd agree but any extra time they can be on the field in a competitive situation should help make up some for the lost time. |
