Re: Fred Davis Done for Season. Welcome Back Cooley
Cooley is always gonna be a Redskin great. You never have to change your name. Nor should you.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah, I'm just playing, especially in a post to Smootsmack (glad he didn't change his). I love Cooley and I'm too lazy to change my username anyway, I hear it takes a super-majority among the moderators, and Smooty's been filibustering most requests, not to mention how much Matty loves to use of his veto power. Stinkin checks and balances and separation of powers. I propose an amendment to the Warpath Constitution. :) Back on track, I do hope Cooley can get back into a game or two, but I fear his loss of speed will make him only a possession, move the chains, tight end that won't stretch defenses the way Davis has and will allow defenses to stack the box more. Either way, I think this means Cooley will likely retire a Redskin without having played for another team. I'm a sentimental guy, so I hate seeing players finish out their careers with a year or two in a strange jersey like Monk with the Jets of Montana with the Chiefs (although I understand why they do it and I certainly would too if offered a similar opportunity). I'll miss Davis's speed, but maybe we'll get him for relatively cheap for a year or two extension now. Hope he recovers quickly. |
Yes. Jon Gruden is coming in and we're trading for Jay Cutler AND Brandon Marshall.
Welcome to The Warpath.
And we're trading our 2, 3, and 4th picks for a host of 6th and 7th rounders. You need to stockpile picks plus thats where all the gems are. |
Re: Fred Davis Done for Season. Welcome Back Cooley
One thing missing from the boards is that Logan Paulsen had a monster game yesterday...
* All 4 catches were huge, clutch, 1st down makers * He did not drop a single pass.... and two were very difficult catches (he has very good hands... who knew!?) * His key block down field sprung Moss for the first TD I think this guy is actually going to do WORK for us the rest of the way... He can block AND catch... I was thoroughly impressed with his work yesterday |
Re: Fred Davis Done for Season. Welcome Back Cooley
Of course when plays don't work, that's when everyone blames the call.
Sometimes players just don't execute. And sometimes the D just shuts it down. I always find the play calling debates to be so mind numbing. Especially when our primary problem yesterday boiled down to turnovers. Yet people still want to nitpick about the plays when we have a top 6 offense in scoring & yardage.
Play-calling had everything to do with two of the turnovers, RG3's INT and fumble, and nearly caused a third turnover when the defense recognized another option read and blew up the play in the backfield. |
Re: Fred Davis Done for Season. Welcome Back Cooley
One thing this team has is workers. I don't think any player takes plays off, and that is attributable to coaching. One thing I don't understand though, is it's not like Shanahan shouldn't know that he has always had weak defenses, so why can't he get that side of the ball right. Just very odd.
Heres the thing. It will be the fourth year. And if we finish comparable to our current record, a 4th straight season of being below .500.
Like I've said before, I root for our coaches. I think Mike has done well with AM and the Oline. But the real reason we are clicking on offense is because of RG3. I believe that RG3 is having some of his success in spite of the playcalling, making something out of nothing. Im sure some successes can be directly attributed to the brilliant mind that is Kyle Shanahan. If I had to take one or the other, Id wager that RG3 would be doing just fine without Kyle Shanahan, and that Kyle Shanahan would still be stinking it up without the all universe QB they now have to lean on.
Maybe the most insightful post of the thread...good work 544. |

He'll be behind Paul?! I could understand 2nd stringing behind Paulsen but Paul? /sigh |

/sigh
Cooley doesn't play special teams. So yeah, he'll be behind Paul. edit: Not that I'm impressed with Niles Paul's transition to TE so far. Lot to develop on. |

RG3 made a bad decision on the INT and couldn't keep a handle on the ball on his fumble. Can't just blame Kyle for everything. The players still have to execute. Why not just blame Kyle for the Morris fumble while we're at it? |

How about both. |

Because that would be unreasonable. The Morris and Tana fumbles had nothing to do with play-calling. The INT and RG3 fumble had everything to do with play-calling. The defense read both plays before the ball was snapped. No OC calls the perfect play every down, but when you see myriad blown plays every game because the defense knows what's up before Kyle does we're not going to consistently score points and win games. |
Re: Fred Davis Done for Season. Welcome Back Cooley
Are you talking about the INT where Paulsen and RG3 had a miscommunication? The play where 10 out of 10 times it would be Fred Davis on that play?
