Re: Robert Griffin III ready to turn career around with Redskins in 2015
He said nothing inappropriate. .
I think saying you know you are the best QB on the team is borderline inappropriate. Saying you feel you are the best is one thing, saying you know you are the best is another. Like I said earlier, he's only going to alienate his teammates even further. They all know he's starting the QB position without earning it. He's gifted that starting position due to what they paid for him. Everybody else on the team had to earn their spot. How do you think that's going to sit with players when you say shit like that KNOWING the only reason you are starting is due to the owner? |
Re: Robert Griffin III ready to turn career around with Redskins in 2015
This last "little" thing is just the icing on the cake, but at this point after two years of nothing but injuries and inept play tone down the uber confidence just a tad. People dont want to here it they want to see it. After a while the talking becomes comical.
I think the reaction to RG3s comments are so ridiculous. He said nothing inappropriate. In my work, even as a young unproven professional who has made some mistakes, if I do not project a confidence that I am striving to be the best and know that I can be, and that I am the right person in my organization for my position there would be repercussions:
1. People would be gunning for my job, or under mining me to make themselves look better. 2. My bosses would question my ability if I wasn't confident. 3. Most importantly, with all the crap I receive on a daily basis, I could not handle the pressure and my lack of confidence would hurt my performance. Dude was saying something pretty mundane, and admitting he needed to prove himself. If he does, awesome. If he doesn't, oh well, good riddance, but not projecting confidence would not make that easier.
I think the comment + his track record + his history of mouthing off = blown out of portion. Take any of those variables out of the equation and it is a non-story. Robert should look to his backfield on how to handle the media, where ALFMO said I agree I am not elite but I am working hard to become elite. |
Re: Robert Griffin III ready to turn career around with Redskins in 2015
People at my work do say they are the best...and when they DO make a mistake, the rest of the workforce let's them know. They are also much less likely to get help from the other guys that bust their ass and don't make the same type of comments. No matter what their context.

This is about everything that has happened since 2012. The only thing blown out of proportion is his ego. |

Plus, when they go on and on but don't back up their words....it turns into a running joke on the floor.
Just sayin |
I'm going out on a limb here. Play calling was different because they need to work on RG3 weakness. Throwing from the pocket and situational downs.
I'm sure we will see read option passes and rollout sin real games
*Shrugs* Your speculation about the play calling could be right, who knows? I can think of a bunch of reasons, it could be as simple as Jay-McVay are evaluating ~45ish players and are looking for specific situations to put on film from Scherff to Moses to Matt Jones to Roberts etc. Still, I would like to see Robert get more reps with similar play concepts that Kirk had in the Browns game. Who knows maybe we'll see them tomorrow night? |
Re: Robert Griffin III ready to turn career around with Redskins in 2015
As far as how Robert's comments are received, I can only speak for myself. I have become deaf to what he says. I only want to see what he does on the field in the regular season. If he performs well, then I'll be happy.

Re: Robert Griffin III ready to turn career around with Redskins in 2015
Given Griffin's history he's not getting the benefit of the doubt on this. He chooses his words poorly for a 4th year player. All he had to say was, " I strive to be the best QB in the league." That's all he had to say. He needs more humble pie in the worst way.
I think reality will set in once the real games start. You can't hide your QB once the real games start. |

Reality isn't going to set in for him until he's cut and borderline out of the NFL. He will not get a starting gig on another team (not running a read option offense) playing like he does. That much is pretty much guaranteed. So with that in mind, the days of him having to actually earn that position is what is either going to humble him or cause him to fold like a cheap tent. Who knows, he may just continue to blame others to why his failure is happening instead of looking in the mirror and putting in the mental work that goes along with being a QB. |
Re: Robert Griffin III ready to turn career around with Redskins in 2015
The whole thing is just dumb. Anyone who read or heard the entire clip knows exactly what he was saying.

That's a given. The only issue with it like I said is the "I'm the best QB on the team." That isn't going to sit well with teammates. I don't see how it's been 4 years and he still can't grasp how to talk to the media yet. Is it blown out of proportion? Absolutely, as will anything he says. Which is why it's so imperative that he really thinks about the words he's using. |

Yeah, that was the explanation of his failures last year that kept coming up. I have not heard anything about what kind of work he was doing to improve in that way this year. Does anyone know or is there any reason to believe he has taken any of that criticism to heart, or made attempts to address that area of his skill set? |
Re: Robert Griffin III ready to turn career around with Redskins in 2015
im a fully in the camp that thinks RG3 has brought a lot of his problems on himself on and off the field .... but i have no problem with what he said.
if you listen to the actual clip it is just generic pro athlete stuff. if you are looking for further validation that this guy just doesnt get it and is uncoachable, you have more fodder for your fire. |
