I think Spence gave up posting here. I don't think he was big on us being critical of him... being critical. Skinny is probably playing Modern Warfare, lol. He's logged an insane amount of time in that game. I wonder if he works. |
Only thing that worries me about Gruden is that fact that he runs a VERY complicated system. I mean it's still the WCO, but as I said before he definitely runs one of the more complex schemes in the league. Weather or not he's more complicated then Al Saunders remains to be seen.
Well I know that many have forecasted Gruden as coming here but with the whole ESPN deal it's so far only cloudy with only a chance of participation in DC. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
I tend to agree. Zorn was unqualified when he came in and while he's done an admirable job at holding things together and keeping his chin up during a really shitty time, I'm sure one of the things Allen is working on right out of the gate is evaluating potential head coach candidates. If this is Allen's ship to run, he needs to bring in his guys.
Yeah I can't see him finding enough good in Zorn from a combine talk and a few weeks of the season to make him more comfortable with the Z-Man than other guys that he's known for years. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
I don't care what anyone says about Allen's record as a GM it comes down to this. Vinny was a douche. Forget the OLine, bad draft pick and bad trades. He was a donkey-ass douchebag that no one but Dan Snyder liked. He was universally disliked because he was a weasel(thank you saden). That couldn't be good for our org. It just couldn't. Even if Allen is the equivalent of Vinny talent wise at least he'll be respected. That alone is an upgrade.

the timing is funny, there's actually a forecast for about 12 inches of snow this weekend in DC. |

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
I think that DT summed things up well:
"Nothing really surprises me around here," Thomas said. "It is kind of awkward, definitely, when the guy that brought you in leaves like this. He's a guy who knows what we're capable of, and was real supportive of us playing well, so it's tough to see this. But you know, people have been wishing this for a long time. Maybe it's just like people getting what they wished for. I guess you just really have to wait for the smoke to clear to see what happened and what's really going on around here." Redskins Insider - Cerrato leaving as some of his choices improve Jaws was supportive of it, but also curious about the autonomy. The one thing that gives me pause, is the team is playing better, he is big on "team", if he feels from discussions/interactions/gut feelings, that the team is playing hard for Zorn, I could see him given one more year to finish out his contract. Again the lack of playcalling is a big conditional factor for Zorn staying. |

This has been added to the story that you linked a bit ago about Allen taking the helm. The station here cut off of the press conf during the questions so I didn't hear this part, not that anything is surprising.
Snyder: Bruce has the authority. When Bruce madkes the decision, it's a Redskins decision. Snyder on Vinny Cerrato and whether he was offered a lesser position in the organization: "The best way to put it is it was time for a change." Snyder and Allen would not directly address reports about Mike Shanahan being the leading candidate for the head-coaching job; Snyder indicated that a decision about Zorn's future will be made by Allen. Snyder indicated that the Redskins interviewed several candidates for the GM job.
|

That would be the one reservation in the matter indeed. However, a team guy or not you have to win, which wasn't happening. Character only takes you so far. |

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
I will say that Allen wouldnt've been my first choice for GM, but from what people like Bethard, Jaws, and Marty are saying about him makes me feel a little better. The key is that we give Allen as much time as we gave Vinny (a decade) and then we judge Allen's personel moves but I'm not going to full out say he's the wrong guy because he might be a pretty damn good GM.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
Right now, i see Snyder manipulating the fans into thinking something's changed when, really, nothing has. The dysfunctional front office structure remains the same - only the players have changed. If you didn't get a chance to listen to Mike Wilbon on the Tony Kornheiser show this morning, then you should.
A character in Snatch said, "Don't piss in my bucket and tell me its raining." By all apperanaces, that's exactly whats happening here. Snyder fired one yes-man and hired another. Allen has never been a "real" GM before. He's only been a yes man. If Snyder wanted a real GM, he wouldnt have hired Allen. Snyder has lead a dysfunctional franchise for so long, he doesn't deserve us to suddenly beleive he has changed now. He doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt. Time will tell, but i'm remaining skeptical until proven otherwise.
How can you say Allen is not a real GM? Allen has respect around the league and has been the GM on 2 different teams. He is not a yes man. |

We all need to realize that its not that BA is the new GM, its that VC is no longer the GM . Lets be honest, VC was probably going to ignore the OL again this upcoming draft, so right there, we have hope and progress.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
You know, people are saying Bruce Allen wouldn't have been their first choice. I really don't know what that means, actually. What other viable choices were available? The truly coveted GMs are gainfully employed and still with their respective organizations as far as I'm concerned. And the Redskins never suffered from having a bad GM; We suffered from not having a GM at all! So in that regard, this is an excellent football move/decision. I really don't view this in terms of multiple choices available to Snyder. It was, however, a great personnel move.
Why can't we leave it at that. I guess if we looked at this in terms of draft picks, one by one, you could come to some conclusion about Allen. But what GM has that type of autonomy? Where the GM has absolute control with no input on who's drafted and who's not? That's not how the NFL operates, I don't care who the GM is. Anyway, this is damn good day to be a Redskin fan. I think Allen has a strong sense of Redskins tradition, the city, he's fiery and passionate, and he fully understands what's at stake here. Now let's get Jason Campbell signed and kick some Giant ass on Monday night. |

Personally I don't buy in to that. Early on I think he was probably too involved, but I think especially over the last 2 years he took a backseat to Vinny. Did he have input? Yeah no doubt. But was he the backroom GM pulling all the strings and Vinny was just doing what he was told? Doubt it. |

I have never said this in my life but for one day can we get off Dan Snyders back? |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
I am glad VC is gone. With that said, I thought he did have some solid personnel moves. His real problem was that he was all about Vinny - cross him and he just got petty. His presser ignoring Zorn (actually, thumbing his nose at Zorn by mentioning Blache and Lewis but nary a word on JZ) is just the latest example. Ultimately, this just breeds spite and infighting as employees/players jockey for position or worry more about covering their ass then the bottom line - winning.
Allen, hopefully, will get the team aspect - he certainly seems to based on his statements and past performance. If the attitude can change, the FO focuses on a long term plan, and the players buy into it, Allen can be a very good GM for us for a very long time. |
