Likewise on your passion also. I recognize we're just fans who want a ring. I didn't see anything in either article implying a motivation level at SF. That's my main issue with what you're saying. He's motivated now which both of us agree is all that matters. Peters was actually singing his praises yesterday:

https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/adam-peters-deebo-samuel-can-put-team-on-his-back-and-will-you-to-win

I don't understand why you keep worrying about receivers in 2026 now. By your tone, you would think McLaurin and the gang are all 38 years old. NFL receivers can and a lot produce well past 30 now. Hill, Thielen, Adams, Hopkins, etc. Please be open to the wonderful possibility of extending McLaurin and Deebo next year and they will continue to produce. AP will know what to do with receivers and we have a great owner now supporting him. We only have JD on a rookie contract for so long is why I'm concerned about the defense going into 2025. Hope I'm wrong and they're great on d.
I'm concerned about the defense in 2025 as well. But I plan on being a fan beyond 2025 and this WR group was facing the very real possiblity of having exactly one impact WR, who will be 30, after 2025. Again I am not so sure they will want to extend Deebo given his age and history, you seem to think that will definitely happen with a declining player and I just don't think that is a given. I'm not sure the plan is to have big contracts to 2 30 year old WRs, one with an injury and weight issue. Now it could very well happen as you say, we agree he will be huge this year, but it's also a risk.

The articles I posted clearly show that he had fallen out of favor in SF for several years, one literally mentioned his training methods. There are a ton of articles explaing how he was 20 pounds overweight before last season. Again not training is a direct function of a lack of motivation. Training hard and weight control is pretty much 100% motivation.

We won't have that problem this year, again in a contract year Deebo will be extremely motivated. But I'm not talking about this upcoming season. If he blows up and gets a fat deal this could very well be an issue again. Missing at least 2 games in each of the last 4 seasons, not to mention the time he missed in the games he played in and was hurt, is a legit injury history that won't improve with age.

I'll also repeat that a DE taken at 61 has very little chance of being an impact edge rusher as a rookie. Myles Garrett and TJ Watt, the first 2 pass rushers I could think of, both had 7 sacks as rookies and the guy taken at 61 ain't no Myles Garrett.

And the biggest point of all is good teams do not reach in the draft to fill an immediate need. I have no reason not to believe Adam Peters when he said their strategy is BPA and they felt that Amos was the best player available. I was one of the few who was not crazy about the pick at the time, I wanted a great explosive RB. But soon I realized if he was their highest rated player I'm fine with the decision.

Panthers just released Clowney, any thoughts?

Article I read said Carolina had a surplus of edges leading to the release along with his contract. Not sure if we'd meet his contract demands, but I could see some type of agreement potentially. Tons of hype coming into the league for him which I know doesn't matter now.

Clowney and Fowler are similar - good at pass rush but sucks at stopping run. Might as well as take a look at him for Fowler's role.

Doubt he gets a big deal anywhere.

I imagine several DEs will be released in the coming months, and you have to imagine the team's pro scouts have some recommendations.

Clowney's stats are pretty erratic and after his rookie contract with Houston he has had 4 one year stints with diff teams, and a 2 year stint with Cleveland.
He won't get a big deal if he signs anywhere.

Clowney would be a nice addition at this point in the offseason. I would def take a look at him

Clowney has been a bust as the first overall pick and has not played well in his last 2 stops. There are better options out there. I mean Baptiste could give them the same production on a 7th round salary.

Now? Wouldn't he want some level of guaranteed money? It would be a waste if he proved to be a wash. Maybe closer to the season if there are no better options.

I actually think you could do a one year incentive deal. 4 million that could potentially pay 6, 6.5 mil. Nothing more than that.

He’s a rotational piece with Wise, Armstrong. I’d very much wouldn’t mind it over other options

I just peaked at his pff grade to make sure he didn’t fall off…not that it’s the bible…but he was solid run and rush.

think we should take a good look at him as a pass rush end i still believe we need one for fowlers spot

I agree, I dont care if they pay him 10m a year to get him, he is likely far better than anyone we have, and he is not to terrible against the rush. In my eyes, he is better than fowler, just older. Fowler sucked against the run, a pur pass rush specialist. Clowney can do both so he could arguably win a starting end role or at least backup. I worry about his knees though. If I were GM, (thank god I am not) Id sign him to a 7.5 M a year two year deal with 3M signon to get him, if someone better comes along, Id sign them too and potentially trade him. We desperately need a vet pass rusher at this point, the likelihood there will be another who rates better than all we have is 50/50 I would guess GET HIM, we have the cap

Cincy still not working with Hendrickson. You would thin he'd want out or be traded at this point:

I don't see how making a call to them could hurt. Dude is a fantastic pass rusher.

I am also sure that Cincy is asking too much for him.

What would you think would be an acceptable trade (from the Washington perspective) Keep in mind next year we currently have a 1st(likely 19-32), 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th?
