One thing strikes me about the complaints on the trade. We traded next years 2nd rounder and swapped this years 5th round picks. You can all but disregard the 5th's as they were a swap. So what you are left with is a hopefully late 2nd round pick next year, in return for a high 3rd round pick this year and a need player taken with that pick. How is that so bad?

The Saints may have got the better side of the deal in terms of position, but that pick is next years. They can't address any needs with it this year. IMHO that's a fairly balanced trade.

This guy fits JG's O to a T, and we didn't exactly mortgage away the teams future on him. Lighten up guys and look forward to camp! :)

I really dont think the trade is that bad at all. I mean yeah, a second rounder is pretty high. Like Emouse said, its a hopefullly a late second for a nice early third. We needed another guy to step in and try to run the TE/H-Back, and hopefully we took care of it. Good trade on our part, I must say.

I couldn't disagree more, fellas. We give up a second rounder for a third rounder in return? And for a tight end?

HELLO!! We need defensive linemen, not more tight ends! That's the only way I would justify a trade like this. Someone else hit the nail on the head: There were excellent players left over from the first round that were still available in the second that we had no chance to get. And barring some sort of trade, we'll be in the same position next year.

I don't like this one bit. We were much more solid at TE/H-back with Rasby, Royal, Stephens, Sellers, and Koslowski -- not to mention the possibility of undrafted free agents who can make a contribution. By contrast, the defensive line is still a huge question mark, with no significant upgrades from the losers we had playing there last year.

A stupid, stupid move.

Trade a next year's pick for a pick one round lower this year is always gonna seem like overpaying, but EVERY team does it!
I think this is a good pick. He sounds perfect for Gibbs' offense.

If Cooley turns out to be another Didier type as some have said, I think he's well worth a 2nd rounder. Let's give it some time to see how it works out.

Chris Cooley seems to be a solid pickup. Pick-wise, I think this move is typical for this trade in the NFL. The Redskins got a mid third rounder and, in exchange, switched picks with New Orleans in the 5th round (which moved them down a total of 11 spots) and gave up a 2nd rounder next year. In the 5th round, most teams seem to make more unpredictable choices and I believe that the Redskins probably gave up little in terms of what choices (in terms of players) they would have in that round. In addition, the Redskins are trying to win now so they figure that their 2nd round pick next year should be a low-round selection. Also, we get to use Cooley now, as opposed to the entire year that the Saints must wait to use their second-round pick. By picking up Cooley, I feel that they have added a player who has proven himself in the H-back role (finalist for the Mackey award, which is given to the nation's top tight end) and although he may never be a Jeremy Shockey, a Tony Gonzalez, or a Kellen Winslow, I believe that he possesses the hands, the strength, and the diversity of skills (good special teams player) that will allow him to succeed in the NFL.

he seems like a good fit for joe gibbs system. I think that was a good pick, over any dlinemen we would have picked up at that point. Gibbs got a TE to fit his system, a lot of the TEs we have now wont make the team or are just special teamers. We dont need to draft a dlinemen who is average. We've got a ton of average dlinemen. We upgraded two spots, and Wynn is solid, didnt give up to much, and Noble might be back. Our Dline is going to be better that people think. Gibbs made a comment about not wanting a dlinemen that wasnt a passrushing threat. He said we alreayd have run stoppers and dont need anylinemen unless he was a great pass rusher.
