steveo395 12-10-2005, 03:01 PM Portis is a system back and that is why he is overrated, you must be able to adapt to different offenses.
I brought up the fact that we have been loosing for a while to show how being optimistic each year will not result in wins. It is about time to be critical, changes won't be made if we keep patting the team on their backs after every loosing season.
the fans being optimistic doesn't change what the coaching staff is going to do in the offseason

Is Gibbs a system coach? Shouldn't he be able to adapt to different offensive personel instead of running Portis into a pile 30 times a game? This can work both ways.
SeasonTicketHolder 12-10-2005, 03:33 PM Why do you quote yourself?

Exactly, it's Joe Gibbs's job to adapt to Clinton Portis, not the other way around. Plenty of backs have left teams where they struggled and have had success. Do you question Priest Holmes? He only had one mediocre season in Baltimore, but he's been great in KC. That would tell me that that system fits him better. What about Michael Pittman? He was nothing as a Cardinal and then went to the Bucs and was a starting halfback on the team that won the Super Bowl. It works for tons of players in the NFL. This is a stupid arguement.
Anthony Chance 12-10-2005, 03:50 PM The Redskins problem is bigger than Portis. I don't understand why so many think the world of him. He was a second round pick for a reason and a player by the name of Tatum Bell is doing the same things that he did to land him in Washington with that big contract. Denver refused to pay him, I think he would have been making less than 1 million if he would have stayed.
Do you think the Broncos would give us Champ Bailey and his career high 7 picks for a first round pick and Clinton Portis. No, they hustled us for champ and a draft pick.
Why is it that players leave D.C. (in any sport) and become winners.

Hey, Eeyore.
Tatum Bell is doing about 2/3 of the things Portis did in Denver. Namely, he is carrying less of a load than Portis did. Clinton averages 270 carries in his Denver career - Bell is looking at about 160 carries this year. Portis knocked Mike Anderson - Denver's #1 RB - out of the lineup. Bell is putting up great numbers, he certainly killed us, but it's a lot easier to run for a great average if you aren't carrying the load.

First of all, Tatum Bell can't even crack the starting lineup in Denver and using the fact that Portis was second round pick is flat out retarded.
Brett Favre was a second round pick, there's not many first rounders I would take over him. Tom Brady was a 6th round pick, do we need to get into that? Would you try to discredit Tom Brady because he was picked late? Do you think the Pats should give up on him now because he was picked so late? Give me a break.
As for your boy Tatum Bell, he's got all of 686 yards this season. Wow, that's huge. The worst season Clinton ever had in Denver was 1508 yards, that's not even in the same damn ballpark. I don't think Tatum should make reservatioins in Hawaii, just yet.
And, oh by the way, Champ Bailey didn't want to come back to the Redskins. He wasn't going to play another down for this team. He had decided that before we traded him. He didn't want to be here and he wasn't going to be here, so why does everyone make a big deal about the fact that we traded him and a second round pick for Portis? Who cares? We essentially traded a first round pick for Coles, I don't hear that getting rehashed every damn week.
Why does it matter what he would have been making in Denver? That's why he's not there any more. He decided he should be paid more and they decided that they wouldn't pay him. Kinda like what happened with Champ here.

What did Tatum Bell do against us? If he was given a whole season in Denver his numbers would more than double.
I'm guessing you thought the world of Trung Canidate too.
I wonder why Champ wanted out
steveo395 12-10-2005, 04:13 PM tatum bell was a second round pick too and he doesn't even compare to portis
not only is portis easily the better runner, he's a good receiver and one of the best blockers in the league

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Tatum Bell compares more to Trung Candidate than Clinton Portis does. I could care less what Tatum Bell did to us. That doesn't make him a good runner. That post doesn't even make sense.
Champ wanted out cause they lose all the damn time. I've gone to bat for Champ earlier on this site and you didn't even make your first post based on the trade. You're not even consistent in your arguement.
