(Merged Thread) Greg Williams Gone After 2005?12thMan 12-08-2005, 03:05 PM Yeah, I saw that too...my point is, these guys make whatever adjustments when the time draweth nigh. scowan 12-08-2005, 03:32 PM I imagine the real answer is the money. G.W. makes pretty good money as an assistant with the Skins, if he could make more money as a headcoach, he probably would, unless as some of you have mentioned it is a bad situation like the Lions. Some of the teams that are stinking it up right now have coaches in their first years, so they are not leaving aka San Fran and Miami, Cleveland. I hope he does not leave. Hog1 12-08-2005, 03:34 PM Just my opinion, but I thought it odd that GW came here in the first place as head coach's don't normally assume the role of assistant. My conspiratorial red flags were immediately UP. I figured GW was told if all went well, he would get the team when Joe "hit the silk"...........and maybe GW thinks "maybe it wouldn't hurt to pick up a few tips from a three time Bowl winnner and HOF member".......and He is already making head coach type money. Dan will fix that, if it is a problem. By the time Joe leaves, much of the really tough work is done! Doesn't get any better. Washington has a certain allure of POWER. The seat of Government of the most powerful nation on earth is big stuff. I grew up in DC and have lived several places since. The air in DC is addictive. It's a prestigious thing to have the President "check up" on the National Capitols team with an occasional call to the Skins coach. IMO-Greg Stays!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not all head coaches that are fired up end back as a head coach right away. Hog1 12-08-2005, 04:02 PM Actually it happens all the time. Not all head coaches that are fired up end back as a head coach right away. OH YEA! real nice. Knock the bottom of my entire post in one sentence FRPLG 12-08-2005, 04:06 PM This is from GW's recent chat on ExtremeSkins (http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117576) "....I do have to take a look at every opportunity that comes along for the betterment of my family, but I can tell you that being a Washington Redskin right now is the most important thing on our minds, because we want our kids to finish school here and enjoy having roots here in Virginia and the Washington DC area. It'll be easy---I can say no and I will say no. I said no last year to opportunities to be a head coach again." Translation: Someone will have to blow him out of the water in terms of money before he'll take a HC job becasue essentially he doesn't care as much about being a HC as he does about rooting his family. Does anyone think someone is going to offer more than Snyder will be willing to pay to keep him? This is the guy that Gibbs basically tied himself too when he decided to come back. Unless he and Gibbs have a falling out Gibbs is gonna want to keep him around at almost any cost. He's gotta also know that he is straight up in line for the HC job here when Gibbs hangs it up plus he is getting mad props on a daily basis around the league. He isn't in any hurry to get out of here. Thank god. FRPLG 12-08-2005, 04:07 PM Actually it happens all the time. Not all head coaches that are fired up end back as a head coach right away. Or ever again for that matter. dmek25 12-08-2005, 04:12 PM i for one do not want greg williams as head coach of the redskins.he is an excellent d coordinator, but that doesnt translate into sucess as the head coach(see norv)i think what williams accomplished in buffalo in his short time there should be sending up a warning flag to the skins SmootSmack 12-08-2005, 04:15 PM i for one do not want greg williams as head coach of the redskins.he is an excellent d coordinator, but that doesnt translate into sucess as the head coach(see norv)i think what williams accomplished in buffalo in his short time there should be sending up a warning flag to the skins I have mixed feelings about it. I mean he could be a Bill Belichick you know, and have great success the second time around. I wouldn't just annoint him the successor but I'd definitely put him on short list One thing about Gibbs is his coaching tree hasn't had quite the same success as Walsh's or Parcells'. Though the advantage Williams has is that he has been there before onsidekick 12-08-2005, 04:16 PM i for one do not want greg williams as head coach of the redskins.he is an excellent d coordinator, but that doesnt translate into sucess as the head coach(see norv)i think what williams accomplished in buffalo in his short time there should be sending up a warning flag to the skins True but people can improve on their second stint as head coach. Look at Bellichek for example. Since he's learning from one of the best coaches ever his chances for improvement are very good |
