The 1st year Joe got here they let trotter go before they even got on the practice field. And after watching him play he said he made a mistake on TROTTER.

Care to send us a link to that audio?

This is from the December 11, 2004 Washington Times (I don't think a link would work since it requires registration)

"They've been stout," said Redskins coach Joe Gibbs, who has conceded he made a mistake releasing Trotter. "They gave us losses on the first two plays. They give you a lot of disruptions because they're very aggressive. Jeremiah is very forceful."

That's the best I could find

So Gibbs didn't come out and say, hey we made a mistake, he's simply saying Trotter is playing well for the Eagles.

Kinda putting words in his mouth if you ask me.

Besides, wasn't this ultimately Williams' decision?

He cut Trotter before even seeing him on the field, that says how much he thought of his ability to run the defense.

OK, Ive accepted the fact that once again we are not going to the playoffs, but we are better than we were a year ago. The question then is, where do we go from here? This is just my opinion/wish list. I know most of this ain't gonna happen, but if I could magically control the shots here's what Id like to see:

1. Get a proven GM. We have debated the free agency moves and draft picks of the Snyder/Cerrato era ad nauseum, Im not going to get into that again. No one can deny that our mid round picks over the last 7-10 years have been terrible. A proven GM can find picks in the mid rounds that contribute to the team. We lock those picks in at bargain basement prices for 4-5 years, avoid salary cap hell, and use free agent money to add 1-2 free agents.

2. Get whatever we can for Patrick Ramsey. At this point, I really don't think we are going to get more than a 3rd rounder for him. We need draft picks, we need to build this team more through the draft and an additional 3rd rounder would certainly help.

3. Focus on the D-line in both the draft and free agency. We need a wide body in the middle and a pass rushing DE. The Bears D is good this year because their front 4 cause tremendous pressure. We on the other hand have to blitz our DBs and LBs to get any pressure whatsoever. I hope we use our 2nd rounder on a D-lineman, and go after a solid player in free agency, probably not a bad ass, but solid.

4. Use at least one mid round pick on O-line. One are in which we have been lucky is the health of our O-line, which is lucky because we sorely lack quality backup talent. If either one of our tackles goes down, we're in trouble. If our center goes down we're in trouble. We need better depth here.

5. Finally, we need a legitimate No. 2 wideout. I don't think we have a legit No. 2 on our team. I don't think we try to draft this, because history indicates that wideouts take at least 2 years to get going, usually 3. A No. 2 free agent WR should be readily available in free agency.

OK, that's my wishlist for next season. I know many of you will disagree, which is fine, that's why we post, let's just keep it civil.

I would say you are all right in what you said!!! But with no first rounder this will be hard to do!!

trotter reminds me of an old mlb the eagles use to have, bill bergey.racked up a ton of tackles, but they were always 5-10 yards downfield.

Here is my outlandish hope for the skins.

1. We somehow are blessed...and get the Tight end from maryland...VERNON DAVIS in the draft. I have wanted him to become a redskin since he was in the beginning of his sophmore campaign at UMD.

2. We lock chris cooley up long term...so he never leaves...

3. We get some D-line help. I dont neccessarily mean an elite pass rushing DE. I would actually rather get 2 D-lineman in free agency/the draft for moderately sized contracts. One pass rushing D-end who is relatively young...and has not yet hit his prime (ie. has shown improvement in each of the years he's been in the NFL). And a good defensive tackle prospect/free agent.

4.. We get some O-line depth...maybe in the draft.

In my opinion our Wide Receiving core is fine...because if we ever got another good tight end a la Vernon Davis to go along with Cooley. Defenses would have sooo many problems covering our offense that Jacobs and Patten would have field days running around out there.

Just out of curiosity...i havnt really followed college football this season...being in france and all...so can someone tell me where Vernon Davis ranks in this years Tight End class...so that i can find out just how unrealistic my hopes of getting him actually are? (He is a junior this year by the way...so it is not a sure thing that he will declare for the draft)

Anthony Fasano TE out of Notre Dame.Anybody know anything about him?
He is one of the three finalists along with Vernon Davis out of UMD and Marcedes Lewis out of UCLA for the 2005 John Mackey Award given to the nations top collegiate tight end.

Maybe we could get him with our 2nd rounder if my boy Vernon Davis is already gone...? Would he be worth that high of a pick...anyone familiar with Notre Dame football?

Gibbs said they made a mistake by letting Trotter go??

I'd really love to see that quote.

I actually recall Gibbs saying something to that effect as well. I don't know if Gibbs meant to say it was a mistake to release Trotter so he could go to the Eagles, if he really thought Trotter would be valuable to our team, or what. I don't regret the move, but I do remember Gibbs saying he did.
