As I have said in all of my post, the Redskins have been setting up their contracts for the uncapped year. All of our big contracts have huge numbers for the uncapped year. Danny boy has been playing this card from day 1. We will be in great position for that year and years to come. We have constantly outpaced the league in dollars from wise decisions. Now some of our signnings have not panned out but we are a finacial model for success. HEnce the reason that Upshaw wants a piece of the revenues that Danny has added to.

As dumb as this may sound, you can all of the talent in the world and still not win it all. Look at the Yankees. How did they lose this year. And with our luck we could have all the talent and still lose.

Is this actually something that is being talked about happening for next year?

Or just a what-if scenario?

As much as I hate the yankees and the idea of a no limit signing frenzy it is nice to be a fan of the team that would benefit most from it. I think that even with danny boy ready to throw money out to any player who has a good year we still would benefit most by doing something gibbs would love, keeping our veteran free agents or "core redskins" without suffering at other positions. Also football is different than baseball in the sense that 1 player can make a difference because they would be on the field more than just 4 or 5 at bats.

It would happen in 2007 if they dont get a new CBA

I heard that even if they do get a new CBA, the salary cap would go up more each year...I don't know if thats true, but thats what i heard

the salary cap will always go up as long as league income (tv/sponsorship contracts) continues to increase.

No uncapped year please.

I'd like to hear why you feel this way, CC. I've thought about it two ways. Either get rid of the cap, and return to the days of the 1980's and let good teams stay together.

Or, allow each team to pay up to three players whatever they ask for and whatever the owner is willing to part with. And make their salaries exempt from the cap -- the other 50 players' salaries will be governed by a cap similar to what the current system is. That way, teams can keep their Emmitt Smiths, LaVar Arringtons, and Jerry Rices.

A key disagreement between the NFL Management Council and NFL Players Association is how to assess league revenue. If the NFLPA gets its way, the amount of money considered league revenue will jump, as will the salary cap. Thus, if the two sides reach an agreement, it is likely that the salary cap will see a fairly significant increase (beyond that which it increased under the current CBA).

Owners like Snyder and Jones are fighting the NFLPA's position because they also want less-profitable teams to get a larger share of the pie. Of course, Snyder doesn't want to give his dough over to the Cards. If the two sides cannot reach a deal, then the following year will be uncapped.

In either case, it appears more and more likely that the cap will grow considerably in 2007. Thus, contrary to my previous position that we are headed for cap hell, we may ride out this storm.
