I would think we could package Ramsey up and possibly pry Abraham from the Jets. Those guys you posted above sound nice, but where we gonna' get the 1st round pick to sign them?

Willams is going to be a monster but he might go top 5 if not definatly top 10.

Hali is a great DE and he will make an impact as a rookie. I would love to get him. We might be able to get him with an early second rounder. I could see him falling into the second round since he just really came on as ai senior plus I think his 40 time might be a little bit slower than the 4.75 that is shown. I wouldn;t be surprised if we traded up into the first round, remember Joe has made a draft day trade every year he has been back (Cooley, Campbell)

Fortunately, the Jets are in cap hell and are currently projected to be $30 million over the cap. They can't tag Abraham without stripping their roster clean. Thus, he's going to hit free agency.

That said, I would prefer that we not sign him and go after an up-and-coming end like the Packers' Aaron Kampman. Kampman won't break the bank, but he'll break his back for the team. He is a good pass rusher and run stopper. I'd like to see him signed, a TE, and a #WR and that's about it.

I hope we don't try to trade up. I'd like to use the picks we have instead of mortgaging the future for the present.

Really? I haven't seen much of him. He won't be a Phillips Daniels will he?

No, he shouldn't be. I'm in Packer country and I've seen a lot of him. He is a highly underrated young DE. He's just 25. He's been improving every year. His rookie year he had just .5 sacks. His sophomore year he had 2 sacks. Last year he had 4.5 sacks. This year (with 5 games to go), he has 6.5 sacks and 3 FFs. He's got a motor that just won't quit.

He likely will never make the Pro Bowl, but he's a rising young talent that is versatile and is an excellent starter. We should scout and try to grab up and coming players (like Kampman) instead of going after guys who we will be paying for their past performances instead of their potential. We could probably grab Kampman and another top notch DT for the price we'd pay to get Abraham.

What scares me is many of the DE and DT prospects people have wanted us to draft in the past have done absolutely squat in the NFL. It's such a hit or miss position.

What I think people are forgetting is the collective barganning agreement has yet to be signed. If that is not signed by a certain date, which apparently is more likely NOT to happen, there will be NO SALARY CAP for the next season. Which, out of any team in the NFL, we all know who will spend, spend, spend and spend some more. The Freeny thing could be a possibility if there is no cap, but dont look for us to go out and sign him if there is a cap. We dont know what is going on with LaVar in the offseason yet, that has some cap implications there. As well as Brunell, I know he is playing well this year, but if we continue to lose are we going to keep at 35, next year 36 year old QB on the roster and waiste time developing Campbell? dont think so. There will possibly be a deal w/ the Jets in the offseason w/ Ramsey since they are not sold on Pennington any longer. Plus Ramsey will be in the last year of his contract and not cap hits will be taken, other than the salary we were paying him anyway. There are alot of if and buts right now, but I would definately entertain the trade for Abraham, and draft a DE. We need two because I think both of ours stink. 3rd round I think we need to try and find a stud MLB. Marshall is servicable, but not a dominant MLB that good defenses have. Our corner situation can be addressed in the draft as well. I hope we start building from the draft rather free agency. We need to start building a TEAM, not just piecing one together.
