onlydarksets 11-28-2005, 10:11 AM Of course, the winner of the second Dallas/Gyants game must lose at least one other game besides the one to us to drop into a 3-way tie at the end of the season. The loser of the second Dallas/Gyants game will drop down to at least 6 losses since they will also lose to us.
I was told there would be no math in this forum.
TheMalcolmConnection 11-28-2005, 10:26 AM Hahaha, hence the reason I asked for help! OK, that's good info. Time to go on a roll and personally I hope the Cowboys win because I feel it's easier for Carolina to beat them down the stretch.
D'BOYZ 11-28-2005, 10:58 AM ok, this is a hypothetical, assuming the Skins, Dallas, and Gyants win out (with the exception of the Dallas-Gyants game).
Here are the tiebreakers (http://www.nfl.com/standings/tiebreakers):
If Dallas beats the Gyants and Skins win out, then, because Gyants are tied with us, down 0-2 against Dallas and we are up 2-0 against Dallas, I think it goes to tiebreaker #2. Skins are 5-1 and Gyants/Dallas are both 4-2 in the division. We win.
If the Gyants beat Dallas, then the Gyants and Skins are 2-0 against Dallas and Dallas is eliminated and we go head to head against the Gyants. We would both have 1 division loss, so then it goes to record in common games. I have no clue how that would turn out.
sorry man but if the giants beat dallas they are 1-1 we won the first metting so looking at your scenario if dallas wins and loses to washington and carolina their record would be 10-6 but with 2 loses vs washington and a 4-2 div record. and the giants would also be 10-6 but with a 3-3 div record and washington would be 5-1 in the division given them a tiebreaker with both teams Washington wins the division.
Now if the giants win and they lose to KC (the only real posibility) they would be 4-2 on the division dallas would be 3 -3 and Washington would be 5-1, washington would take the tiebreaker again.
this is looking at your best scenario.
TheMalcolmConnection 11-28-2005, 10:59 AM Excellent. That's what I was hoping all that meant.
Here's hoping for a miracle.

that's what i said - check my followup post. i know my first post is wrong, so i'll edit it to reflect that.
#56fanatic 11-28-2005, 11:10 AM I cant even believe they allowed this post to begin with. Do you really think the Skins have a shot. Well, mathmatically they do, but honostly who are you trying to kid. Dallas, NY, Philly, Arizona, and St Louis on the road. We may win 1 of those games. Dallas and NY will hand our asses to us, philly isn't as bad as people think they are without Donovan and TO, well atleast they are as good as we are right now. Arizona can score points and well as St Louis. I can not believe people are putting playoff scenarios out here. Be realistic people. Look at the teams ahead of us. Dallas, Giants, Atlanta, Carolina, Seattle, Bears, Tampa are all atleast 2 games infront of us. Not to mention Vikings are 1 game ahead. and most of them are 3 games ahead. We can not compete against any of those teams. I hate to sound gloom and doom, but its just the facts. We are not a good football team. Good teams dont let under 500 teams come to our stadium and beat us. Good teams dont surrender fourth quarter leads. Good teams run the clock out at the end of games, they dont go 3 and out every possession in the 4th quarter. They make 50+ yard field goals. We are just a 500 or worse team.

Wow - that was so not the point of this thread...

explain the point of the thread then. It seems to me everyone is what if this and what if that. Its rediculous. This is the conversation every year at this point. Last year it was if we win out and finish 7-9 and if this team loses and that team loses we get in because of this tie breaker here and conference record here. When are us Redskin fans going to start being realistic. I think the last few weeks has caused me to start looking at the true team we have and not what if we do this and that. People dont have to see things the same way I do, and I dont expect them to. I just want to put my side of thinking out there and maybe open some peoples eyes up that we are not that good, and not going to the playoffs. Realistically speaking of course.

See, this is why I prefaced this thread for bullshit like this. Normally, I don't take stuff personally, but I will take this one personally. Why even say anything? If you don't have faith, that's fine and dandy, but come on now, why even waste the space on the page? The point of the thread is to give some hope to anyone who has faith. Do I think the Skins will do it? Probably not. I DO think that there is a chance and I just wanted to point that out to the rest of us who still have an inkling of faith left. I mean I COULD have started another "The sky is falling" threads, but where's the fun in that? :)

I respect your opinion on how the Skins will likely finish the season. FWIW, I agree with you. However, that's not what he asked. He just asked, if we win out, what has to happen for us to win the division? This has nothing to do with "realism" - it's just a question.
If you don't want to discuss the topic of this thread, then don't. However, some of us do.
