Behind Portis? I expect him to see a lot of practice squad time.

We signed him because there was interest by other teams. He'll have the opportunity to shine in pre-season.

As long as Clinton Portis is healthy, Sultan will be the Babe Laufenberg of the 21st Century.

??? Am I the only one here that watched Sultan last preseason and some in college. The guy looked like a great back, I was rooting for him to start all last year. Now this year, theres no way he should touch the ball unless Portis just broke an 80 yard run and is winded. But he should atleast be backup. WE should keep him and his tiny salary, play him as backup and get somethign for betts.

I agree, SKINSnCANES. Sultan is a talented back, and plays for the NFL equivalent of peanuts ($305,000). I get the impression that he was a victim of front office politics last season, and with a new coaching staff in place, he should have a prime opportunity to prove himself. I don't think the team's prior investments in Ladell Betts or Trung Canidate are going to grant those players any special consideration, though Chad Morton will probably get some significant time as a role player-- based on his talent as a receiver out of the backfield. It should be a wide-open race among Betts, Canidate and McCullough for the primary backup job behind Portis.

I personally think Sultan could blossom into a wonderful back, but I don't see him getting much playtime. I see Morton and Rock being our two primary switchup backs, but McCullough is definitly someone I wanna keep around!

Portis, Betts, Sultan thats how I see it.

Betts, Trung, Sultan, Morton, Rock...thats five back up running backs. Some of them are going to be gone. Who do you guys think will still be here. Morton will be here as a return man, and a situational thing. Cartright could play the back on punts, he could be a threat there. Rock technically could play some fullback I guess. I think Trung will be gone, and Betts will have to beat out McCullah. Neither cost much money but they might need the roster space.
