Did Gibbs make the throws to Jacobs? Just checking because I thought Brunell was still the QB.

It would have been nice if Brunell looked off Taylor and went to a secondary receiver on one of those wasted passes. (Of course, with Moss double covered, we might not have any secondary receivers. We're in trouble if the Chargers shut down Santana.)

First of all Gibbs doesn't call ALL of the plays. Thats why we have an Offensive Coordinator.

Second, you can't place the blame all on Gibbs. The players have to execute the plays that are called, and that didn't happen. I don't care who you are, or how good you are, but you're not going to win games by costly penalties, and turnovers. We started some good drives, but we shot ourselves in the foot.

I will say this, it is Gibbs responsibility to have the players prepared and yesterday they weren't. Total lack of focus.

Brunell did make the throws, which I think were good throws. Not all good throws are completions. He put the ball in places only the receiver was going to make the catch, if not they were out of bounds or overthrows for imcompletions. The fact is, he was THROWING THE BALL with the lead with 7 min or less to go. Portis only touched the ball 6 to 8 times in the second half, when we are winning the game, and he is averaging 5 yards a carry.

Maybe if Portis didn't put it on the ground twice, Gibbs would've given him a couple more carries.

The fact that the o-line couldn't protect Brunell really killed us.

So you take your only person who was doing anything and take him out of the game? I dont think so. Portis hadn't fumbled all year until yesterday. And fumbled while trying to fight to get more yards. That is going to happen. I dont excuse him from any bashing, but you can't take Portis out of the game plan in those situations. Better yet, you cant stop running the ball in those situations, period. When we are up, late in the game you can't stop running the ball.

I have another question : Why in the hell do we continue to take LaVar out on 3rd down passing situations? Wynn and Daniels get absolutely no pass rush what so ever. They suck. When LaVar was used as a DE in those situations a few years ago he totalled 11 sacks. Clemons does a decent job at getting up field the majority of the time. Sit one of those two (wynn or Daniels) and put LaVAr in and let him get after the QB. Taking him out and not even letting him rush the passer is confusing. I believe he is our best pass rusher in those situations. Daniels and Wynn are pretty good at stuffing the run, but stink at getting any pressure on the QB. If we are going to send four guys, which at this point is probably best given our tendancy to give up big plays, put LaVar in there to create some kinda presence of a rush. Again, we are taking one of the playmakers on our team and putting him on the sideline when we need plays to be made. We can not continue to send LBs and CB and not expect to get beat.

Not having Patten yesterday hurt the Redskins. People may bash Patten, but having his speed and ability on the field only helps...

Having missed the game (I DVR'd it, did a fast forward thru the first half, and when I realized that's all the scoring I did, I turned it off and booted the game into deleter space), did Portis get niched up at all? With Betts out, that could be why Portis didn't see the ball much. Also could be that no lead is safe, and throwing the ball is a quicker way to score points.

The Skins have had a lot of injuries this year, that affect the core of the team. Missing Taylor last week, Griffin both weeks on Defense have affected the unit. GW's system is exploited because the personnel running it isn't getting the job done. This is basically the #3 unit from last year (sans Pierce and Smoot). Those 2 here would be void because the biggest problem is getting pressure on the QB.

The Skins need to dig down deep and find out what they're made of...

Portis was not hurt, they just stop giving the ball to him. The fact that we are leading the game with 7 minutes, even with 4 minutes left we still decided to throw the ball. That is just not making any sence to me. Taylor helped out tremendously yesterday. But at the end of the game they left him out there to try and cover two guys, which no one can do. He made the right choice going over to help the LB matched up on a WR(why is the LB matched up the WR at the end of game) leaving Springs one on one with a scrub, who got by him. Just bad coaching on both sides.
