Beemnseven 11-13-2005, 09:45 PM Isn't this the second week in a row where we've heard how Gregg Williams is going to make life hell for the opposing quarterback? Apparently, his defense is officially incapable of carrying out any strategies that Williams comes up with to sack the opposing quarterback.
Thanks to absolutely no pass rush whatsoever, Chris Simms miraculously transformed himself into a Hall of Fame caliber player -- completing pass after pass, including a perfectly thrown touchdown for a come-from-behind victory, all while not coming close to throwing a pick. After two games performing like a wide-eyed rookie, this defense made him appear as though he was a 10-year veteran.
It's common knowledge that it is simply way too much to ask Renaldo Wynn or Philip Daniels to make physical contact with the QB, but nobody else does either! Even the blitzes aren't effective.
There's plenty of blame to go around for this one -- for example, on 3rd and 2, with the final 2 minutes ticking away while up 35-28, this offense cannot secure TWO FREAKIN YARDS to seal the win. I didn't like the call anyway, but what happened to the days of offensive lines stepping up to the challenge to ram the ball down their opponents' throats, eating up the clock and pounding away to victory? Haven't we waited long enough for this line to "gel" and become one of the top offensive lines in the league? Isn't this why we brought in guys like Randy Thomas and Casey Rabach? Should we not expect nothing less from Chris Samuels and Jon Jansen to step up like the leaders they're supposed to be and play like the Pro Bowlers everyone says they are?
Until this line can pave the way for victories in these situations, and as long as our sorry excuse for pass rushers permit the quarterback to pick apart the defense, this team is nothing better than the middle of the pack, with a 'one and done' playoff performance likely -- if they're lucky enough to get there.
mooby 11-13-2005, 09:50 PM Chris Simms has one good game and all of a sudden he's a hall of famer? I wouldn't go that far. Everyone has their bad days sometimes, and our defense had one of those. I blame this game on our defense because they couldn't stop him when it mattered most. I'm sick of people saying after a loss all these ridiculous statements and shit like we need to cut one player.
skinsguy 11-13-2005, 09:52 PM I do agree with you about the defensive line. We get zero pressure from them. Although, i believe Griffin being out certainly hurt us, but for the most part, our defensive line lacks the ability to pressure the offense. Our secondary played horrible tonight. I'm sure Sean Taylor being out definitely hurt, but the combination of no pressure up front and the poor play of our secondary is why Simms had such a great game. It was easy for him.
I will disagree on the Third and Two play. Best play to call, considering how easy it was for us to run all over this defense. Throwing an incompletion stops the clock and gives their offense even more time to go down field and score - not that they needed much time.
redrock-skins 11-13-2005, 09:53 PM Phil Simms was a "Redskin Killer" and his son picked up right where his dad left off. When the Giants forced Phil into a retirement, I breathed the biggest sigh of relief we would never see him again and now nearly 20 years later our past flashes before me.

No, I'm not going to start a petition for Chris Simms in Canton. I said this defense made him LOOK like a Hall of Famer. After two bad performances, he lines up against the Skins and suddenly lights it up.
And I didn't call for anyone to be cut, either.

Exactly, Simms is still 1-2 as a starter. It's funny how fast the fairweather fans emerge after a loss. Just take your jersey and hat off and put on a Bucs jersey or whatever teams jersey we lose to because it's not cool to abandon your team after any loss. If anything you should be more resilient in knowing that they will come back stronger than this week. 4-0 at home.

This defense didn't make him look like a hall of famer though. Hall of Famers get in based on how they perform their whole careers, not one game. You have to remember on any given Sunday, any average joe can come out and look like a hero. And i know you didn't say anyone should be cut either, it's just some of the things that come up after a loss are ridiculous. The title for this fucking topic says Chris Simms played like a Hall of Famer, not Our Defense made Chris Simms look like a Hall of Famer.
sniks 11-13-2005, 10:05 PM cant make excuses for them either sunra.I dont think anybodys abandoning them just tired of losing year after year.

Apparently, you cannot grasp the point. I am not saying Chris Simms belongs in the Hall of Fame. I'm reacting to the outcome of this game, where he picked us apart, looked poised in the pocket -- and really, how could he not be with the way he was never threatened to be sacked -- and looked like a guy who had been in the NFL for ten years an seen everything. He played NOTHING like a 4th round pick who's been backing somebody else up for the last three years.
I don't know how I can get this across to you. I'm saying, "Man, that figures, Chris Simms sucks until he plays the Redskins, and tonight he plays like he's a friggin Hall of Famer."
I am not saying, "Man, did you see Chris Simms play? One day, his bust will appear in the Hall of Fame!!!"
Do you see the difference?
And Sunra, why is bitching about a loss make one a "fairweather fan" ??

Apparantly, you cannot grasp my point. I'm saying it's very stupid of you to act like the Redskins are a college football team after one close loss. I am also saying you are overreacting.
I realize you are not saying "Man, did you see Chris Simms play? One day his bust will appear in the Hall of Fame.
I don't know how I can get this across to you. Let me try. You are overreacting.
You say he played nothing like a fourth round pick who has been backing someone else up for the last two years. I'm saying, any given sunday, someone can come out against a good defense and look like he's been a pro all his life. It happens.
I hate fans who always start the bitching machine up after a loss. A real fan would look at the mistakes, and move on to next week.
