skinsguy 11-13-2005, 10:13 PM To bad gruden didn't play it safe, oh yea he won though.
Nonesense! Playing it safe is what cost us the game, playing it safe is only another word for playing scared, giving the ball back to tampa was the most unsafe call we could have made, what if we open up the offense like we did the entire game and make a first down? Maybe we win? Winners are not afraid to play to win, losers play not to lose.
With that kind of thinking we might as well take a knee in overtime.
I hope this finally wakes Gibbs up to the realazation that Portis is not a power back, and our line can't power run.
That absolutely makes no sense whatsoever.
Redskin 11-13-2005, 10:13 PM prolly it was one hella a game but they wont show you the angle where u can clearly see his elbow touching and ball tucked away and that is a guarentee cuz they are not allowed ot make mistakes
offiss 11-14-2005, 12:20 AM Are you talking about on that last TD drive, when the Bucs were down by a touchdown? Of course Gruden is not going to play it safe, he needs to go for the win. If he had the lead though you don't think he would have kept the ball on the ground?
NOOOOOO, I am talking about going for a 2 point conversion for the win, and not playing it safe for a tie, you know like doing whatever you have to do within reason to not allow the game to be decieded by a coin flip in overtime, because at that point no one was stopping anyone, to bad Gibbs didn't realize that.
And for the second part of your question absolutly not, if his short yardage running game is as bad as ours, I say no, You do not rely on the weakest part of your offense in the most crucial part of the game, we are not so, so, on short yardage plays, we are dreadful, and yet there we are running the ball 3 downs in a row and going no where taking a whopping 1 minute off the clock, and this is not a first time issue, Gibbs has done it over and over since he's come back, our defense has bailed him out quite a few times, unfortunatly he should have taken into account we are without some key players on defense and couldn't risk giving the ball back to Tampa.
SmootSmack 11-14-2005, 12:25 AM Not to pin the loss on Frost, but I don't believe that Gibbs expected Frost to have a 35 yard pooch punt at the end of the game.
We can second guess every decision til we're blue in the face, but what this game boiled down to yet again was turnovers. Simple as that. When you lose that battle, most times you lose the game.

If Frost boots it further, then Tampa just marches down that much longer and leaves us less time to attempt to get in FG range.
bjschmonsees 11-14-2005, 01:05 AM All I can say is Gibbs should get a $1,000,000 fine for his comments on the refs this game...
Well, maybe I'll say one more thing. We are a very, very good team. We should be proud that it takes 53 Bucs and a 7 man officiating crew to beat us...
Luxorreb 11-14-2005, 02:24 AM They most certainly missed the call on the 2 point conversion, but if you don't jump they don't get to the one and they don't go. If you don't get torched, they don't get down the field and score. The Skins need to take ownership too, if they didn't leave the door open, this isn't a loss. If they go for juggular and convert on 3rd and 2 the possession never happens. Mental mistakes lead to situations where bad calls could be made. I, personally, think Betts stepped out, but that went our way.
Obviously the call on the 2 was horrendous and it cost the Skins the game, but it really should have never come down to that. That's a bad team we played and a terrible offense and we gave up 36. If we needed to drop more into coverage tehy should have...that was horrendous play by the D backs that cost us this game as much as anything else.
Extremely well said jdlea.
Great effort today by a few guys, but as Gibbs says,'it's a team loss'. OL gets Portis thru different ball game. Secondary doesn't leave peeps wide open deep (with NO help from safety) different game. No offsides on EP different game, DL stops Alstott at the GL right up the middle ( I honestly don't think he got in, but angles were kinda inconclusive) different game. But hey this is the NFL and somedays you get more breaks than others. Bottom line we shouldn't have been in these positions in the first place.
dmek25 11-14-2005, 12:35 PM you guys are the biggest bunch of non football fans ever.if we throw the ball on 3rd and 2 and it falls incomplete, then everyone in this thread wants coach gibbs head on a platter.winning football dictates a run in that position.winning football also dictates picking up 2 lousy yards and the first down.our running game moved the ball very well yesterday, but we could probably use #46 as our short yardage back.we are getting close guys, but it might take coach gibbs one more year.im still not giving up on this year
Daseal 11-14-2005, 12:41 PM dmek - You throw a high percentage pass in that situation. No one wants a bomb down field. We want a quick curl or something in the flat that we can hit with ease. Do you really not think a play action in the same formation we used three times in a row would not have yielded a receiver with two yards? When it comes down to it, you go for the first down and control your own destiny by taking a knee instead of having to stop an offense that had been driving all over us yesterday.
The worst that can happen would be an INT return. That means we have more time to come back. I simply think a high percentage throw would have made more sense there because they knew it was a run without any doubt.
