There's a local sports radio announcer in my area saying that the TV ratings for this season are down. He's frequently trying to minimize and downplay the theory that the NFL is the king of all sports.
I have no doubt that a regular season NFL game is probably losing out to the baseball playoffs, but a regular season baseball game against regular season football is easily no contest.
Are there any sites that could verify or refute this?
I haven't head anything like that at all.
Did he cite any sources?

the nfl is like 6 of the top 15 rated shows on tv right now, and last i checked rating were up a ton this year over last... I was looking through the NFL's informational materials when they came out this off-season (usually sent/meant for journalists).

No, and that's the thing. You know how talk show guys regularly say things just to fire up the audience. He's probably just talking out of his butt.
The only thing I've ever heard that I know is true is how Monday Night Football's ratings have always been in the toilet, especially in recent years. A few seasons ago, when the Monday night matchups routinely had come-from-behind finishes and tight, down to the wire contests, even then the numbers weren't good. Living on the east coast, I know that I'm barely able to keep my eyes open after 10 pm or halftime, unless the Skins are playing of course.
I can't find anything on the overall numbers this season, though.
