We rest Springs and Portis. Give Ladell, Rock and Nemo some Playing time.
We are going to need portis to be fresh for december stretch run.
and i hope Arrington get atleast half the snaps. you have to give him an opportunity to play... he has made 3 probowls for the team. he has earned it. i would even consider him at MLB.
Also, i would like to see Jacobs in at #3 or even #2 WR. He need to play too.
i would say start molinaro or someone else instead of dockery but i dont want brunell to get killed.
last year we used Chris Clemons as a DE on Obvious passing downs and the guy got sacks. i say we Line him and Lavar at DE and make Alex Smith scared shitless on obvious passing downs.
i think if we match harris on lloyd we will be alright. also, i think betts will run well against their Defence.
i understand the most important thing is getting the win. but we have to take care of our guys too. its a delicate balance.
i can flow with that....but keep them ready, just in case

I like the Clemons idea
I think Betts might still be hurt. And actually I'd like to see them use Portis a lot in this game. This could be one of those games where Portis could get his mojo back.

I like ALL that! I especially like the "rest Springs and Portis" idea, but I don't know what message that might send to the team. I think ole Gibbs will play the starters if healthy to send a message that the game is important. I would love to see Arrington kill Smith though............

Me too. We need to get Portis some confidence back.

As much as we fans and most of the media expect a cakewalk, there's no way the coaching staff treat this like a pre-season game. The 49ers are an NFL team, they beat the Rams and gave the Cowboys all they can handle. They're coming off of a bye week, are healthy and rested. This has 'trap' written all over it especially if we take a win for granted. I expect the Redskins to win handily, but I expect it to be with their starters in the whole game.

We can all expect that one thing Portis does not lack is confidence. Though I'm sure he is more anxious than any of us to get into the end zone, nothing about his demeanor suggests he needs to be picked up at all.
I'm sure we'll get to see some swagger sooner than later.

Let's also remember that the QB that led them, and their suprisingly potent offensive attack, is no longer on the 49ers roster.
Not to diminish what the 49ers COULD do I just think that its the time where we need to score some points and get some confidence back.

Portis need a boost that tells him he can run the ball in this system. I believe this weekend he may get that boost. If we are killing the 49ers by halftime, then maybe give him the 2nd half off. I would like to see the broughton kid in the game and run the ball a little. He seems to be the kind of back Gibbs loves, BIG, STRONG, between the tackles and hes not all that slow. I think he may provide a little deminision that portis doesn't on short yardage, especially inside the 10. I have not been impressed with Jacobs, although he really hasn't been on the field very much. But when you have max protection and your 3 or 4th, you aren't going to get a lot of looks. this may be a game that if we are up alot in the 2nd half we see some of those guys play a little more. The O line needs to play, maybe Rabach rests a little but the other guys need to play. They look awful in run blocking especially up the middle and between the tackles. Maybe Brunell can only throw the ball maybe 20 times at most. I dont want to see him get the "dead arm" early in the season. He can not sit back there and throw the ball 40 times a game. He looks good now, but he cant do that all year.

We cannot afford to take this game as a rest stop. Now if we are up by 25 to 30 points in the second half I would love to see some other players get some playing time. This is why Gibbs got so mad the other day because reporters were acting like we could look past the 49's. These guys are all in the NFL for a reason. They might of had some realy bad games but they could click for one or two games this year. Remember in 2003 when we beat the pats and after that they won like 20 in a row, maybe they were looking past us.
