Beemnseven 10-17-2005, 03:33 PM Who needs to step up?
How about Renaldo Wynn and Philip Daniels? Check these numbers:
ZERO sacks in 5 games. That's it. Those are their numbers.
It's getting pretty interesting when we keep hearing the coaches say that Lavar Arrington isn't playing because he doesn't "follow the system" yet, Wynn and Daniels get absolutely no criticism for their pathetic pass rushing capabilities, and they never lose their starting status.
Are they following the system?
steveo395 10-17-2005, 03:59 PM yeah, the only time I remember seeing him yesterday was when he was running down the field next to Moss on the big screen play. I think with Jacobs it's mainly been the fact that Gibbs has been using a max protect scheme about 90-95% of the time and only having one or 2 wrs out on the field and Gibbs would prefer to have Moss or Patten out there in those situations.
on that play did u see how fast jacobs was....he was keeping right up with moss and passing all the defensive players...he should be on the field more
illdefined 10-17-2005, 04:18 PM oline, very much including Jansen and Samuels. a 2nd year guy made utter fools of them Sunday, and anyone who said Portis needs to step up can just look straight at the entire oline for the lack of big running production.
dline, i'm starting to think the reason our running defense was so good is because they stay right where they are. save Griffin, they hardly ever go into the backfield for the remote possibility of creating a pass rush. well, teams have figured out to beat that, run AROUND them to the outside. and it's what beat us these last two games (i'm including that Holmes screen pass).
everyone on the D needs to revisit tackling, they magically forgot how when they were all so good before.
Gmanc711 10-17-2005, 04:20 PM Honestly I think Portis needs some better rushing numbers. However, I only blame him 50% for those numbers, because I really think we are using him the wrong way and we havent had great run-blocking. I'd like to see the rushing attack improve.
Defensive line REALLY needs to improve, but I didnt really expect a ton out of them anyways.

I agree GMAN. I really wish we could use more of those stretch plays for Portis. Especially in the red zone. Everyone is in the box, so we should just run him to the outside. He has the speed to turn the corner.
Defensively all around we need to step up, but one thing that does stick out is shitty tackling. Did you guys see Trent Green look like M.Vick on that one play where like 5 defenders couldn't get him down? Thats ridiculous.
SmootSmack 10-17-2005, 04:50 PM I thought I heard somewhere that early in the Denver game that Portis told Gibbs his shin was hurting too much to turn to the outside, that he'd rather run between the tackles until he felt better.
Can anyone confirm this?
FirstandTen 10-17-2005, 05:42 PM [QUOTE=Paintrain]While I am still happy with the start of the season (but disappointed the last 2 weeks) there are a couple people I'd like to see bring their game a little more..
-Sean Taylor: Not really complaining about him, he's been solid, but he wasn't drafted to be solid, he was drafted to be a game changer. He's supposed to be Ronnie Lott, Steve Atwater, Ed Reed, making plays on the ball, causing fumbles, crushing WR and tight ends, blitzing and terrorizing QB.. Once Springs, Rogers and Harris are all in the game and healthy let's see if he is let loose some more.
I think Sean Taylor has been playing great. He caused two fumbles vs KC that Skins didn't recover....and don't be so quick to forget the "Game Changing" HIT he had on Patrick Crayton in the Dallas game, that turned a sure game ending 1st down into an incompletion.
Big C 10-17-2005, 05:52 PM the defense collectively need to improve their tackling. too many broken tackles have led to huge plays. lemar marshall needs to step it up some. patten needs to help out a little more. dockery needs to become more consistent. defensive line needs more pass rush. happy with portis, hes had a shin injury the past few weeks, he does need to get into the endzone though
Kevikazi 10-17-2005, 06:22 PM I say Warrick Holdman. 12 tackles (9 solo, 3 assist) so far. That's 2.4 tackles a game. LaVar had 2 tackles in....5+ appearances?. Also, during Priest Holmes' screenplay, he was getting blocked out by a WR. As a LB, you should be able to shed a block from a WR, and make a play.
skinsfanthru&thru 10-17-2005, 06:28 PM on that play did u see how fast jacobs was....he was keeping right up with moss and passing all the defensive players...he should be on the field more
I thought he was going to run past Moss, lol. and to imagine he did that AFTER making a block to spring Moss and then follow him down the field was pretty awesome. I'd like to see him on some 3wr formations running slants or stop and gos.
