Longtimefan 10-16-2005, 10:26 PM We had the Football (albeit) relatively deep in our own territory with one minute 48 seconds on the clock, and a 7-6 lead just before the end of the first half. Was it a good decision at that time to just run out the clock (which we attempted to do) or to try and make a few plays in hopes of maybe getting into Field-Goal range and increasing the halftime lead to four points as opposed to one.
I came to the conclusion coaches may not have wanted to take any unneccessary chances just before the half and maybe giving KC the opportunity to get the lead before HT. What do you think?
skinsguy 10-16-2005, 10:45 PM I think you're correct. It would have been nice to have seen us get some points before halftime, especially knowing KC was getting the ball first in the second half. The game has been played. It's over, time to move to S.F.
In the grand scheme of the game, this was hardly a blip on the radar.
Turnovers and penalties were the 2 keys to the game.
saskin 10-16-2005, 11:10 PM I'm all for getting points....that's the whole point.
But what if KC intercepted and went for a TD? People would be calling Gibbs an idiot....course some already fo that.

nah, they've moved on to Williams now.
offiss 10-16-2005, 11:23 PM Gibbs has nominally tried a screen or something relativly consevative to see if we could get a big gain, if so then he go's on the attack, I alway's believe you attack from wherever you are if you have remotly enough time to do so, but I don't really kill coaches who don't, but I do believe it seperates coaches like Parcell's, and Walsh from the rest, they have a belief in their offensive capabilities to attack at all times, it depend's on the situation, there have been times where I would say sit on it, and other's where I would say go for it, probably the flow of the game has a lot to do with a decision like that.

Parcells had (up until the Eagles game supposedly) a very conservative play calling.

It's a shame when these coaches are called "the best" when they win and when they lose they're the worst people in the world and they "don't know how to do their job"...even though they've dedicated their life to this.
I had faith in Gibbs when he moved to Brunell and I have faith in Williams to get the defense going. Most of all, I have faith in the Redskins.
saden1 10-17-2005, 01:14 AM Did any of you catch the Michigan State vs Ohio State game this past Saturday? Bad things happen when you try to force an issue.
"The game turned on the final play of the first half.
Michigan State had controlled the ball throughout and led 17-7 with 24 seconds remaining in the half. Faced with a second-and-12 at Ohio State's 17 with no timeouts, Stanton was tackled for no gain by lineman Quinn Pitcock.
Rather than having Stanton spike the ball to stop the clock on third down, Michigan State's coaches hustled the field-goal unit onto the field. In the chaos, offensive players were scrambling to the sideline while the kick unit was trying to beat the clock for a 35-yard attempt. The Spartans snapped the ball with only 10 players on the field.
Ohio State's Nate Salley broke through to block the kick, which was picked up by cornerback Youboty and returned as time expired to cut the lead to 17-14."
Gmanc711 10-17-2005, 01:16 AM To be compeltely honest, I thought that momentum was not on our side offensivley and I was actually calling to just run the clock out. I normally disagree with that sort of thing, but just the feeling I had, I thought we should just get into the half asap.
