I don't know about you guys, but the one rumor that really worried me about the draft was the Skins trading Samuels and the #5 to Oakland for the #2 to get Gallery. I don't think we'd ever be dumb enough to do that 2 for 1, but who knows? This article did alot to assuage that fear. I think Joe Gibbs would have a hard time ever being untruthful, so his statements about staying put go a long way in making me think we'll either stay where we are, or trade down if approached-
Do you guys agree, or do you think even Gibbs could be putting out a smoke screen, and we may go after Gallery?
Here's the article....

I find it difficult to believe that Samuels and the 5 pick wouldn't be worth more than the 2nd pick. Even with a sub par performance the last year or two, Samuels is considered easily one of the top ten LT's in the game. Gallery may have the potential to be the same kind of player, and I could see packing Samuels and something other than the 5th pick to get him (primarily for cap reasons), but losing the 5th pick and a very good tackle to get a very good tackle is bad math.

An all-pro tackle AND the 5th pick for a potential all-pro tackle??? I don't think so. That's basically giving the pick away.
Yes, Samuels has underachieved the past year or two, but I believe he will re-emerge as a force (or should I say HOG) under Bugel.

"Yes, Samuels has underachieved the past year or two, but I believe he will re-emerge as a force (or should I say HOG) under Bugel."

He needs to because "to me" he has looked pretty terrible as he turns and watches the defenders go around him and pount Ramsey.

Bugel is his ONLY redeeming hope "I think".

If Bugel can't do nobody can. He might as well pack up and leave the league if he does not have a good year.

True.

But think about it: The last two years, the blocking schemes were horrid (or non-existent at times), plus he was injured much of 2002 and playing next to a "green" rookie last season. Before the Spurrier years, he was the solid tackle he should be. So you are 100% correct...if Boss Hog can't get him back to form, no one can. IMO he will.

Bugel could get me into shape and I am missing a right foot.
lol

Any Coach that has "SLOBBER KNOCKING" as an official term in his objective is alright with me.

I think Samuels will return to form this year, we'll run the ball a lot more and the blocking scheme will not call for him to pick up three guys on every play. I know part of the problem is that he didn't want to renegotiate his contract, but of course he didn't. Nobody wants to renegotiate down, why give up money?

I believe Gibbs when he says you don't make calls. Now I do think that Snyder is itching to move up and take Gallery, because a 2 for 1 like that is exactly what he does (Champ and a 2nd rounder for Portis in case anyone has forgotten).

Stay put, draft a stud TE or S and watch Samuels re-emerge into a force.

The issue with Samuels isn't so much his level of play... not very many players had career years under Spurrier. It's his price tag. Next year it starts getting into the stupid money range. He's already renegotiated his contract twice and doesn't think he should have to give in again... hence the impasse.

If Gibbs is calling the shots now, what makes people think he wasn't involved in the Portis deal. It seems to me that whether Gibbs or Snyder is involved in a deal is totally and completely dependant upon whether or not someone likes the deal in question. If they think it is a good deal, then obviously Gibbs put it together. Otherwise, it must have been Snyder interferring again. I personally think that every move we've seen regarding personnel has been made with Gibbs' complete approval if not architected and initiated by him. I don't think that Snyder has been dictating anything. And, IMHO, that's exactly the way it should be.
