Wow Those Linebackers played so well TodayBigSKINBauer 10-10-2005, 01:54 PM obvious blitzing plays.....like the one that they noticed and quickly audibled to a run that was there second touchdown of the game 12thMan 10-10-2005, 03:06 PM I've pretty much stayed away from the LaVar threads, for the most part, but for him to ride the pine for an entire game raises some doubts in my mind. I really think it has more to do with him not being able to play within the scheme. What's that reason?? I don't know. I just find it hard to believe that LaVar Arrington is so incapable of picking up GWs system that he sits for an entire game, and plays sparingly in the other three. Yeah he freelances, yeah the system requires discipline and knowledge of schemes, but this man has been in the league for some years now and he most certainly has down the most rudimentary elements of playing linebacker at the NFL level. Hiis freelancing, IMO, couldn't have cost us anymore than the two big runs we gave up yesterday. Do I trust that GW knows what he's doing - absolutely! Just like eveyone else here, I have no idea what's going on, other than what GW has said, and why he isn't seeing any playing time at all. And truthfully, it doesn't bother me a whole lot either. I'm just curious as to what element Lavar could add to this defense. GoSkins! 10-10-2005, 06:27 PM I think that with Springs and Harris out, Williams was just not able to cover for Lavar. What I mean is that if Lavar is allowed to freelance a little, it wouldn't be so bad if our cover corners were in there. With our safteys having to play back and help in the passing game, we just didn't have a place for a guy like Lavar yesterday. It sounds like Lavar is close, so maybe we get Harris and Springs back for KC and Williams can bring in Lavar more (not just 3rd and long). TDSkins 10-10-2005, 06:29 PM It's like caging up a wild beast, if he does get back out there for the KC game, damn i'd hate to be the one having to fend him off. LOOOOOOOOOK Ouuuuuuuut Momma! jamf 10-10-2005, 06:38 PM Ade Jimoh didnt get burned on the TD. it was a play that most teams do with a tall receiver. there isnt a corner in the league(not bailey, mcalister, rolle, madison... that can stop it consistenly). i thought Ade played well. better than rogers. ade was on the line facing his WR. rogers was giving too much cushion for Smith. i saw alot of fight and talent in ade. i think he is better than rogers right now. also, on the first TD run, holdman and daniels had containment. rogers has to go with smith who took him out of the play. daniels completely missed on the tackle and holdman was too slow or out of position to make the play. GoSkins! 10-10-2005, 07:29 PM daniels completely missed on the tackle and holdman was too slow or out of position to make the play. Danials missed, but Holdman got hit with a very good block. By the time he got off the block Bell was gone. Kevikazi 10-10-2005, 08:10 PM My feelings on some of the questions on this thread: Gregg Williams to hold Plummer to less than 100 yds passing with both Skins' Cornerbacks injured says alot about his skills as a defensive coordinator. I think our D-linemen's duty was to CONTAIN Plummer from scrambling first then, go for a sack second. They've done a good job of that. Weather had a lot to do with missed tackles. I can't think of a game where we missed so many tackles since G Williams took over. I'm a fan of LaVar Arrington, but I'm a bigger fan of Gregg Williams. LaVar Arrington's play-making skills alone never put our defense into top 5 for over a season. Gregg Williams' defensive scheme (with no-name players) does. EternalEnigma21 10-10-2005, 11:19 PM !!!HE HELD DENVER TO <100 yards PASSING WITH ADE JIMOH AS HIS STARTING CORNER!!!! That alone makes him not just a "genius" but a "fucking Genius" thats gotta be the quote of the week somewhere lol itvnetop 10-10-2005, 11:22 PM i love arrington (one of my favorite players on the team), but the reason he's not starting is because he isn't playing within the system yet... i highly doubt it is due to "teaching a lesson" or to prevent incentive clauses- the coaches aren't that petty. GW said something in an article today that it doesn't matter if a player has one spectacular play and then has four bad plays after that. he has to show it in practice consistently. i have no doubt LA could increase the probability for a turnover. but the coaches may believe he may also give up more plays in the process and that outweighs the positives right now. arrington is too good of a player and too proud not to be on the field... he'll start showing up in practice and he'll start playing on sundays again. EternalEnigma21 10-10-2005, 11:37 PM Here's one thing to think about. I agree that a system and a coach can make a huge difference, but its only the player's ability to carry out an assignment that makes a system look good. Look at the patriots. Everyone thought they were a team of misfits and talentless, but as it turns out, the loss of talent really hurt them. Bill Belechick (how the hell do you spell that??) cannot win the game. On that same note, Gregg Williams is not a Defense. He manages a defense. He manages players. His career is based on evaluations of his player's performances. On that note you can look at this situation two ways. Number one, Greg Williams just plain honestly feels that Warrick Holdman gives this defense the best chance to win. Number two, GW feels that if he can win without LA it will become a true testemant to his genius and the fact that he can make a group of misfits and outcasts great. Based on what I've seen out of Warrick Holdman, I'm inclined to SPECULATE that it may be a little bit of both. I'm not attacking the man's character or intentions, but he is human. Anyone who's watched football knows that being out of position may give up a play or two, but so will missing wide open tackles in the backfield that go for TDs. I know for a fact that WH did miss one of those tackles. That's all I know, besides his stats are pretty unimpressive. Then you have to ask yourself if GW just wants someone in there to fill some shoes and take on some blockers. Maybe he wants Washington to be his main LB, and lead the Defense. This man prides himself on taking underachieving players and turning them into valuble pieces of a great D. Maybe he just feels like LA is a bit too outspoken and will bring the morale of the "team" agenda down. I'm just saying this because no matter if he was a bit of a "freelancer" (as was quoted before) GW himself has said, you build your team around your talent. Its not like LA is a mongoloid that can't understand what gap control, blitz, and man and zone coverage means. Thats realistically about all a linebacker has to do. It baffles me to think that he's too stupid to understand what's being asked of him, and I refuse to believe that he is physically incapable of it. GW may have the best intentions in the world, and may build the best Defense in the history of football, and I'd gladly take it... but who can honestly say based on what we've seen of LA, that any defense couldn't be improved with his presence? |
