well if he did he would have had a better record last yr,nobody in their right mind would have stuck with brunell that long last yr

he stuck ith brunell because it wasnt all his fault. Just like it wasnt with ramsey when he came in and sucked to. No nfl qb is as bad as they loko in gibbs system. Gibbs needs to learn how to call plays again. Im not in love with brunell but hes not as bad as gibbs makes him looks.

Its very obvious that Gibbs is finally starting to listen to Musgrave. We looked like a real west coast team at times today and it was working. Hopefully we'll do it more. But then Gibbs to over teh play calling again with 5 straight runs...we had a lead, why would we try to score....

the skins offense moved the ball consistantly down the field on the seahawks defense today, the play calling was fine and there was no need to call audibles, the skins had over 100 yards rushing on them.

gibbs doesn't like audibles cause they can result in penalties... so running into a stacked line and wasting a down is a good solution if i've ever heard it :(

I thought it was REALLY strange too, i mean seattle wasn't even trying to hide it.

A simple play action and throw the intermidiate pass over the top of the LB's, the reason teams are able to stack the box is because the WR's are running deep patterns and being covered by corners and safties, we need to isolate Cooley and Portis just beyong the LB's so that any time they committ to the run we can dump the ball over the top of the LB's, if we show we are willing to do that every play we will force the LB's to wait a little longer for their read's to make sure we don't throw it, this will allow more running lanes for our backs, I don't know how we will ever run the ball if we allow LB's to overcommitt to the run like they do, no line can block 7 or 8 defenders in the box with any kind of reasonable success.

Considering how bad the seattle defense was just pining their ears back and running where ever our backs went, I don't understand why we didn't use more misdirection play's, end around's, and play's of that nature?

I also want to say I don't see anything remotly resembling the denver blocking schemes we so worked on in the offseason.

It also seemed that today's game later in the game that Gibbs allowed more play calling by our coordinator, we went away from a lot of those comeback routes, and started running a west coast offense with slants, and passes to the TE's and back's, which was refreshing to see, it is also what alwowed us to control the ball like we did for most of the game.

the only reason the game was close is because the skins defense had a few breakdowns today. the skins offense played pretty darn good

If the play calling was fine then why was it always third and long? yes ,brunell did a great job of converting 3rd downs. But if you run twice, and its 3rd and long...youre not doing something right. Portis averaged just over 3 a carry again. Pathetic. No running back can run through a 9 man front. The announcers even laughed and twice put up numbers counting the number of defenders in the box, and they still ran it up the middle.

If gibbs makes a good pass play, hes going to jump like a school boy then hand it off. Hes very predicatable. There was one or two drives that we ran the west coast offense and it was working great. We just have to do that more. You can almost tell when its musgrave or gibbs calling the plays.

those 3rd down routes were prefectly laid out, someone was always open and Mark zipped it to them.

but yeah Brunell can hold on to it too long just as much as Ramsey does. that flea-flicker could've done real damage but Brunell pumped and waited for the corner to fall or something before he threw it deep. can't just be late in the 4th quarter Mark.

It's simpler than that and Gibbs should know it. You call two plays in the huddle, a run and a pass. If the run is not there, you simply shift to the pass formation and go. You don't need a lot of complicated assignments being distributed at the line. That's what doomed Spurrier's audible system. I agree, running the ball with the box overstacked was not brilliant playcalling unless you are intentionally trying to run down the clock.

and can we please kill the WR screen??? they even call it when no blitz is coming! 2yd gain, loss of down, and keeps everyone up to the line of schrimmage. whats the big idea??

Was it me or did seattle seem to know every time we were going to run every time we ran.

It really doesn't matter what a team knows against a decent offense. Portis still gained 106yds. The question isn't that they know what we're going to do, but can they stop it and they didn't stop it. Every team knows that McNabb is going to throw the ball to T.O on most plays, but they still cannot stop his movement of the sticks! The Redskins just have to call the right play at the right time depending where we are on the field and what the score is.

those 3rd and long plays that you are referring to were at the end of the game, up to that point the skins found themselves in 3rd and very manigable on a consistant basis.
portis did average 3.6 yards a carry, not great but not pathetic either. what did betts average?
i'm quite certain the same person who's calling the plays at the beginning of the game is the same person calling them at the end.
the skins offense easily outplayed the seahawks defense today. the skins defense had a few breakdowns and thats the only reason the game was close.
