Dumbest rule in football.

This isn't even a rule. This is an argument over who gets credit for the yardage when a screen pass goes for a TD. Who cares? The bottom line is a TD is a TD, no matter who gets the credit.

Rules have a bearing on the outcome of the game. This argument just has bearing on who gets the stats. Big deal. If you're going to argue rules, argue about when a catch is a catch, or how much contact is illegal contact, or whether the ground can cause a fumble or not. But this isn't even worth discussing.

I was just about to post something similar, I couldn't believe it took 19 posts until someone said this isn't a rule, LOL.

I absolutely HATE College OT. I remember watching Arkansas beat Mississippi (And Kid Eli) in 7 OTs, and as exciting as it was, it was way too damn long. The game was 17-17 going into OT, and the final score was 58-56! Any decent team can score from the 25. Want to make it better? Have the teams start from their own 40. That way, they have to work to even get 3. You can run 3 unsuccessful plays from the defensive 25, and put points on the board...to me, starting on the 25 is kinda like getting the ball handed to you via coinflip.

I'm glad they don't have ties anymore, but I prefer the Pro OT system. Granted, it's unfair if the other team doesn't get a chance, but life is unfair. If your special teams cannot stop the returner on the kickoff, do you really deserve to win? Your defense should be pumped enough to make crucial stops in OT to get their offense the ball.

as far as stats are concerned, the QB benefits from a piss poor defense that cannot stop a screen pass.

Illegal contact vs. Pass Interference. Not quite sure the exact wording, but have to believe that it has to do with the type of play. Illegal contact may not impede a receiver making the catch, whereas Pass Interference does...

illegal contact is touching the WR after 5 yards... the clearest example is how CBs used to keep their hand on the WR shoulder to keep track of where they were (champ did it a lot), which didn't really affect the WRs route.

pass interence is interfering with their ability to catch a ball, by throwing them to the ground, pushing them, tripping them, etc.

Worse rule? Easliy the arbitrary hands to the face on QB's. Why don't the refs just be honest and reword it to read "Hands to the face of QB's we like"?

Last night Eli has his brow lightly mopped by one of the Bolts LB's and there was a 15 yard penalty. Ramsey has his tenure at the Redskins cut short by a clothesline (where the arm hit his facemask) and he gets diddly......Bitter? Moi?
