I saw Casserly at the Tysons Corner Clyde's having brunch about 2 months ago and asked him when he was coming back to the skins. He smiled and holding grandkids and said "You never know whats gonna happen".

I think he was talking out of his ass so a bunch of us would leave him alone.

Just a couple of real world items here:

1. Is Casserly's contract up with the Texans? I don't know if it is or is not. If not, then Danny Boy better damned not fire up Redskins One and fly down to talk with Casserly. That would be "tampering". That could cost the Skins a first round pick - in 2007 since they already don't have one in 2006.

2. Bobby Beatherd left Washington to a large extent because a "power play" emerged between him and Joe Gibbs. JKC didn't rectify the situation to Beathard's liking and so he left town. He may have buried the hatchet with Gibbs in the intervening years - or maybe not. If not, he ain't coming back here.

3. Let's not demean the Texans' talent just because you want to argue that Charlie Casserley is not the guy you might want as a GM here. Dominick Davis is not a hack as a running back; he is a capable and worthwhile running back at the NFL level. Andre Johnson hasn't had a seson like a Randy Moss/Terrell Owens/Chad Johnson/Marvin Harrison. But he'd start on the Redskins in 2005 in a heartbeat. David Carr was actually a better QB two years ago than he has shown this year. That says to me that there is a "coaching issue" in Houston as opposed to a "GM issue". The offensive line in Houston hasn't ever been any good. Prediction: Dom Capers will not be the head coach there six months from now.

4. What actions by the Redskins FO or the coaches leads anyone here to believe that they would hire a GM if one came to them under the Christmas tree gift wrapped? I don't see anyone in the organization pushing for that to happen.

I would love to have Charley back!

The front office will never improve as long as Vinny has a say in it...he needs to be shipped to alaska and erased from Danny's mind so that he can never be rehired.

Clearly, it's not working out. Everybody gets on Joey Harrington's case, yet you never hear criticizm of David Carr. Andre Johnson and Jabar Gaffney have yet to make any kind of noise as the wideouts, and the offensive line has not come together, if there's even a cohesive unit in the making capable of coming together. Domanick Davis is a ho-hum running back, and the defense, other than Philip Buchanon are made up of no-names, who are living up to that status -- and I don't mean the No-Name defense of the Dolphins.

Casserly has definitely had his chances to build up the Texans, and each year everyone expects them to take the next step, they end up disappointing.

So, knowing this, I guess the question should be, do we want Charlie Casserly?

the difference is this. carr was the first player ever on the texans, who have built a team from scratch only four years ago. he also had a good year last year, whereas harrington did not and was on a team that has been around for ages. andre johnson hasnt made any noise? he had a great year last year

I would love to have Casserly back. Not as GM but as some new position aside Cerrato. If we don't hit the playoffs this season look for that to happen. Casserly would love to come back to DC with Gibbs and not have to take the fall as a GM rather a more 'consultant' job. Or hell maybe even GM. I don't think either has done poorly Casserly or Cerrato. I know people like to hate on him, but for the first several seasons I think Dan Snyder probably had more to do with player decisions than Cerrato. Dan has recently; smartly allowed football people to make more informed decisions on personel.

Anyone else have a sneaking suspicion that Redskins 1 will be heading down to Houston (weather permitting) to wine and dine Casserly?

How long until he joins the Redskins as GM?

I vote for early next off season.

THAT is a veeeeery interesting thought! I wonder what Joe thinks about that? Charlie knows talent. I don't know what the deal is in Houston, but he had signifigant input into the Superbowls teams for us.
If Houston continues, someone will have have to go. Maybe several sombody's
*** If you are not familiar with it Charlie Casserly has an incredible story of how he got a job with the Skin's-check it out

What second day draft pick has Cerrato made that has contributed to the team significantly? I can't think of one real good starter that he has drafted outside the first 3 rounds, and I could have picked most of those guys. He is not good at his job, and he only holds it becasue he is a friend of Danny's. He is the only person in the organization who is not held accountable for his actions.

part of the problem is a i think both gibbs and danny dont mind throwing picks around. cerrato is really just a head scout.

we did get pierce as an undrafted (who we should have kept, he's REALLY helped NYG's run D and so downgraded slightly and a division rival got a big upgrade). ryan clark... I can't really think of many others though...

Regardless of what label we want to give Cerrato's job, he does have a significant say in the makeup of the team and I don't feel he has done a good job. It seems Snyder has turned over every job in the organization 3 or 4 tims yet Vinny remains. I don't think anyone would argue that the redskins draft record outside the first 2 rounds is not good. If he is not judged on those results then what is he judged on? No one can convince me that he has done a good job. I would love the Redskins to bring in a real GM to help Gibbs, even if it's not Charley...

i'm just saying he's a good scout. I agree he hasn't been a good GM, and i'm not sure why he got promoted, but he's not the best we can get.
