Will Gibbs Open Up the Offense Now?

After witnessing the playmaking abilities (and flat out speed) of Santana Moss, will Joe Gibbs open up the offensive playbook a little more? I always thought that the more important controversy than "Ramsey v. Brunell" was "Conservative Offense v. Taking some shots downfield." Neither quarterback was going to look good throwing 3 yard passes.

I just hope that after seeing what th team is capable of, Joe Gibbs will start to trust his offensive players a little more. A few big passing plays will open up the run and put points on the board. Our D will keep us in games. The big plays will win them.

I certainly understand why Gibbs wants to grind out games. We have an excellent defense and, at least in theory, we should have a good running game. But, I pray that Gibbs will open up the offense and go downfield before the end of the fourth quarter

Obviously I don't think that the first read is always a dump off to Portis or anything, but I have seen too many 2 yard hitches. I agree with the fact that with our D we don't need to run the no-huddle shotgun or anything, but we need to take our shots downfield just to keep the defenses honest and to actually put up some points.

The last few minutes has instinctly replaced the fear of self-doubt among the players and coaching staff. The confidence in what they can accomplish starts with wins like last night. To see Parcells call the flee flicker against a man who made the flee flicker famous was embarassing at the least. I did think there would be more opportunities down field but there simply wasn't enough time for Brunell. When there was, he made the right decision. Not only will there be more playcalling involving Moss but Thrash will definitely be apart of that scheme. Cooley and Royal will continue to make big third down plays when the running game is stagnant. Brunell has certainly won the confidence of Gibbs after this win, and I'm sure that will play a major role in the deep pass.

We have to put more pressure on the opposing qb. What is up with our pass rush? Also our O-line needs to pass block much better. If Brunell doesn't get better protection, it will be in wild card Ramsey's hands.

I'll tell you what's wrong with it. Lavar Arrington missing is action. He's just not moving with the aggression and strength he used to possess. I don't think he has healed completely and as become a little disenchanted with his lack of play in Williams' defensive packages. Well, if he doesn't become an effective pass rusher, he can hang it up as far as being a pivtol part of this defense.

I agree Sunra, but Lavar was barely playing last night. He will use this bye week to heal and get stronger and hopefully play with mad aggression from here on-out.

I just want to see Portis used better. I really thought our first few drives of the game, Portis was grinding it out, doing a good job. Then we just started sending up him the middle, and I thought he started to struggle. Then the team started to struggle and we went to the pass.

You hit the nail on the head. Every one wants to argue about the wich QB is worse, but the fact of the matter is that it's not the QBs that look bad. It's because they never take any good shots down field. And when you never stretch the field, it allows the defense to keep every thing right in front of them and even stack the line of scrimmage. Wich means no running game, and more pressure on the QB.

I hope this would convince Coach to open it up, and I believe it will. I think this WILL launch us into the regular season, and our team will perform much better because now they are united and gained a lot of confidence with that miricle win.

Brunell's mobility is also also a added bonus.

I would also like to see them get another Wide Reciever and use some spread formations so Clinton can have more instant lanes to run. If they pass in a spread formation, that will back DBs off, and it will spread the defense out. And when the run out of that formation, Clinton will be able to use his best attributes to our advantage, wich is his speed, shiftiness, and vision. He's not a grinder, he's a speedster. You can't use that amazing speed grinding between the tackles.

The offense definately needs to be opened up more.
