Would you have still picked Sean Taylor?

I was recently looking at the draft class of '04, now that they all have a year under their belts, and was thinking if I were the Redskins GM/VP/Snyder/Gibbs/Cerrato would I have made the same choice in picking Sean Taylor with the fifth overall pick or someone else?

I must admit, I still would have selected ST with that pick. Considering all the other available choices and the positions they play, I think Taylor would have and has added more impact to our team. Even considering Big Ben was available, I still would have gone with Taylor.

"Homerism" aside, would any of you have made a different choice....even as much as we love ST?

I separated the first 10 picks from the top fifteen. Just to make it a little more interesting.

1. Eli Manning QB - Chargers
2. Robert Gallery T- Raiders
3. Larry Fitzgerald WR - Cardinals
4. Philip Rivers QB - Giants
5. Sean Taylor FS - Redskins
6. Kellen Winslow TE -Browns
7. Roy Williams WR - Lions
8. DeAngelo Hall CB - Falcons
9. Reggie Williams WR -Jaguars
10. Dunta Robinson CB-Texans

picks 11-15

11. Ben Roethlisberger QB Steelers
12. Johnathan Vilma ILB Jets
13. Lee Evans WR Bills
14. Tommie Harris DT Bears Chicago
15. Michael Clayton WR Bucs

big ben but at that time we just got brunell so yah i would still take sean. I still think big ben is overrated though.

Hey i know big ben can't be placed on offense at the goal line

Great post...even in retrospect I love the Taylor pick. The only players that may have been more valuable would be Big Ben or maybe Eli. Taylor however is now the game changer on the defense IMO. It's hard to say but in light of everything at this point I think it was the right move.

I'd have a hard time deciding between Taylor or Roy Williams at this point. Both players possess rare physical talent, and both possess tremendous upside at this early point in their careers. Williams may present a better need pick at this point-- given the dearth of big bodies in the Redskins' receiving corps, and the brilliant ability of Gregg Williams to compensate scheme-wise for talent gaps on his defense.

It ultimately comes down to which player would benefit the team more at this point, and I think Roy Williams probably would've helped the offense more than Taylor helps the defense. But I'm not complaining about having Taylor "Swoop"-ing around the field on defense, either! :biggthump

Like Crisp the only player I would consider would be Roy Williams, but I wouldn't change it. I love what he can do in the offseason.

Sean Taylor IS the big guy on our receiving corps ;)

At that point, we were losing Champ Bailey and trying to beef up our defense. If we hadn't gotten Springs or Taylor, I might would have suggest DeAngelo Hall.
