But for good cause.
I had tickets to the Skins/Boys MNF game in week 2 and would be attending with my 2 brothers and my father. My first live Redskins game in 20 years of being a fan. After the Katrina disaster my city (Killeen, TX) has taken in just over 1000 'Gulf Coast Guests' (we call them that instead of refugees) and placed them in homes in our town.
My church has decided to do something a little different for our guests. We are going to open up our youth building and bring in all of our guests and give them a live showing of the Giants/Saints game and serve dinner and give away all kinds of Saints and NFL goodies (shirts, caps, jerseys, etc...). We're trying to get some autographed items from the Saints and working with local businesses to make it an unforgettable night.
I heard today that the game has been moved to Monday Night and it took all of about 15 seconds to decide between volunteering to help with the event and going to the Skins/Boys game. I wouldn't have been able to enjoy myself at the game, knowing that I could be helping people that have lost everything by giving them an opportunity to laugh, smile, cheer and enjoy life for 3-4 hours even though they have been through hell just a few weeks earlier.
My opportunity will come to see the Skins play live and I'll love every minute of it. But for now, I know I'm going to enjoy watching the Saints game with 1000 Saints fans, then coming home and watching the Skins game on the Tivo!
I just thought I'd share that with my fellow Skins fans and let you know that down here in Texas, we're all doing what we can to help out!
