Here's his half-assed explanation:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writers/dr_z/09/01/predictions.explanation/
4. REDSKINS (4-12)
I know this is a vicious prediction, and since Washington has some of the most dedicated e-mailers in the land, I expect to hear from an army of them next week, just as I did last year when I picked the Skins ... what ... 5-11 or something like that? Gregg Williams' defense shouldn't let this happen, but it was good last year, too, and so what? I think the Patrick Ramsey-Mark Brunell-Jason Campbell merry-go-round is a bad situation and the sign of a deeper problem -- namely that this team doesn't quite know what it's doing.
RedskinRat 09-01-2005, 04:28 PM What F*****g Merry-Go-Round? Where has Coach Gibbs said he'll play the best man available a la Stevie Spurious?
Dr. Z, please get a real job.
Redskins_P 09-01-2005, 04:31 PM F-ing hilarious.
Drift Reality 09-01-2005, 04:36 PM I think Dr. Z is getting a bit too old to be writing about sports. Actually, I think he is getting too old to be writing, period.
He is just too old.
firstdown 09-01-2005, 04:38 PM How is the Ramsey, Brunell & Campbell a merry go round. Last year Mark had the starting job and lost it to Ramsey. Ramsey came in and the jod has been his from there on out. Campbell only has two ways of seeing the field this year. 1-Ramsey and Brunell get hurt, and with the way our line is prodecting I don't see that happening. 2 Ramsey is playing just good enough and stays in for the first half of the year and then Gibbs sees that Ramsey is not our answer. Then the ball will go to Campbell to get him an early start for next year. I do not see Brunell getting to start in the second half of the year unless we are in realy good shape to make the play offs. I realy think its funny how a writer can write off Gibbs after one season.
scowan 09-01-2005, 04:40 PM The problem with Dr. Z assessment in looking at the Skins' schedule is that he is assuming that because the Skins only won one game in their division last year, they will probably do no better than that this year. So let's look at the schedule..... They SHOULD beat the Bears, and the 49ers, because they are both at Home. They COULD beat the Bucs, the Raiders, and the Giants all on the road. They also could split with everyone in the division, the Boys, Eagles and Giants at home. That is 8 real possibilities based on their performance last year. I know some might question my win over the Eagles, but the Skins lost to them by 3 points at home last year, and I have to think that the Skins have improved more than the Eagles have improved this year. Enough to overcome those 3 points and Ramsey's INT late in the game. I would be thrilled with an 8-8 Skins team this year, and think it is more possible than Dr. Z gives them credit for.
celts32 09-01-2005, 04:48 PM I don't like his assessment, but Dr Z knows a lot about football. No need to trash him becasue he doesn't think the skins are any good. Hopefully, he is wrong. Everyone is entitled to thier opinion. The only writer who gets to me is Lenny P, because it really does appear clear that he has an axe to grind in every article...
Dogtag 09-01-2005, 04:49 PM After reading the foundation for his theory, I'm reminded of the opening paragraph of the Desiderata ..
"Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence, as far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story."
saden1 09-01-2005, 04:50 PM Talking about his ass is bothersome and bothering to write him is even more bothersome. Why bother?
backrow 09-01-2005, 04:59 PM Dr. Z! Now playing at the local Comedy Club! 500 locations nationwide, 1,000 near you! If you call now, keep calling!
The entire article says Dr. Z is in serious need of psychological therapy. Talks to himself way to much, replies to himself, then takes his own thoughts too seriously!
