Some DAP for Snyder

DAP, isn't that what you young kids are using when you think someone deserves some praise/respect for something they've done? I criticize Snyder alot for throwing away picks and always trying to build through free agency rather than the draft, but Ive always admired his passion for the Skins. Given that, here is an excerpt from an article in today's WP:

"Starting tight end Robert Royal was not at the luncheon because owner Daniel Snyder gave him use of his plane to fly to Louisiana to help his family in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. He could miss tonight's game as well, and the plan is for Royal's relatives to fly back on Snyder's plane. Royal is a native of New Orleans."

How cool is that? Its not like Royal is a superstar or anything, he's an average player at best. Snyder deserves a little praise here, awful nice thing to do.

I like how this story didn't break on redskins.com.

One of the things that upsets me most about the Daniel Snyder / Jerry Jones comparisons is that, though they run their organizations similarly, Snyder is nowhere near the egomaniac Jones is. If this was a Cowboys situation, Jerry would have flown with him and brought Ed Werder from ESPN to film the whole thing.

Snyder does ALOT of charitable work behind the scenes. The fact we don't hear about it tells me his heart is in the right place and he doesn't do these things to pump up his image.

On another note, on Real Sports on HBO last night they had a piece on Randy Moss. I was surprised to see he also does alot of charitable work behind the scenes and is very involved with children's charities.

It really put him in a different light for me.

Yeah he's an ass at times, but it was cool to see that he's got some causes he believes in and puts his time and effort into... and isn't looking for publicity for it.

Another hated owner in the sports world........George Steinbrenner donated 1 million dollars to the disaster funds. As much people hate him.....that was a really nice gesture on his part. Expect to see more of this from other owners....

Yeah these owners are usually hated because they're out there making big moves to acquire players, and fans of other teams just seem to get jealous. Throw in a brash prediction here and there by one of those owners, and presto, you've got venemous hatred.

But really, the hatred is only based on the moves they make as owners. Maybe some personality traits rub people the wrong way too. But in the end people need to remember that they've never met these guys. It's kind of hard to judge someone accurately without meeting them.

I hate what Steinbrenner does to the game of baseball, but I'd sure want him as my team's owner. And I don't think your job defines who you are. He may be a ruthless owner, but he also might be a decent person. Same goes for Snyder and Jones. We'd never know unless we got to know them.

Little known story: A couple of weeks ago Cory Raymer's wife lost three liters of blood after her fallopian tube ruptured. She was very near death, Joe Gibbs had Raymer flown out to Colorado on one of his Joe Gibbs Racing planes so he could be with her and their kids. A nice touch. Fortunately, she's all fine now

I remember one time many years back Joe Dumars talked about his reputation for being such a good guy surrounded by the Bad Boy Pistons and he said basically "When all is said and done, if the best thing that can be said about me is that I was a good player, then I've done something wrong with my life as a whole" That always stood out for me. I don't expect these pro sports figures to be role models. But it's always nice when they take on that responsibility of being better people than players/owners/coaches.
